No chance 50k a week but the harsh reality is some other team would probably be happy to pay that. Therefore we have a decision to make or a compromise to reach. I would expect an agreement for a lower wage but with frequent reviews to get the salary up to that level if certain are criteria are reached.

Just have to accept this as there is no loyalty or pay back of the years of coaching he received from our academy developing him. It's just how it is nowadays.

I remember the likes of Danny Cadamateri (sp) at Everton impressing at a young age. Probably a good job they didn't give him a 50k a week contract.
Sterling has a long road ahead to warrant 50k a week. Potential to be world class, but at the moment he isn't really that great if we're being honest.
He's only in the England squad so Jamaica don't nick him.Forwards.......

He's our second best player this season.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostI remember the likes of Danny Cadamateri (sp) at Everton impressing at a young age. Probably a good job they didn't give him a 50k a week contract.

Yep......50k a week is madness. Firm hand required here, with a contract based around experience, games played, personal achievements etc, being rewarded with pay increases.
As it should be for any young player.
I've no doubt that there are certain other sides that would pay that straight off the bat, but those other sides have more pots to piss in than we do."I will make the boys feel your support"

if we pay him 50k a week he'll be finished as a player.Originally posted by Mostar View PostI'd pay him too. He is regular now and will only get better.
If we play this right we could have a top notch winger for decade and more and that comes without paying a fortune to acquire him (Thank you Rafa).
We really cannot **** this one up.
too many other things to do with his money and off pitch activities to ever be focussed on training / matches.
try and reach a compromise otherwise sell him for 35m and let him waste his career at city. mind you he's single handedly supporting a kids without full time fathers foundation so he does need the money.Last edited by el matador; 10-11-12, 10:57 AM.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Tbh, 30 grand or 50 grand, if he's going to go down the road you say, he will anyway, and depriving him the extra 20 grand a week wont stop him. imo.Originally posted by el matador View Postif we pay him 50k a week he'll be finished as a player.

20 should be fine. He can always negotiate for a better contract at the end of each season if he is going to fulfill his promise but as people have mentioned, Spurs will ****ing pay him that much or offer him that to turn his head in and piss us off.
I'm brutally pissed at all this

Tbh i feel the same about 20 grand a week at his age.
But we aren't paying by age, or we shouldn't be, in this case we should be paying by talent, and right now, he's the most talented young un in england, and clubs will..as we speak, be drawing up plans to steal the lad away from us.
Maybe that's what all this is about, i don't know, driving that first wedge in between club and player, in order to force an eventual move.
He could, when you think about it, be a title winner by 20/21yrs old, if he was at one of the clubs at the very top.
So lots to consider.

Giving him that sort of money would set a horrendus precedent with our younger players, blow our wage structure apart, and leave us with nowhere to go with the lad when he turns 20 and wants to renegotiate again for £150k/week. **** that. At his age with his prospects, something in the 20-25k range, rising yearly based on performances/appearances or whatever, would be a huge deal for a kid his age, whatever his talent.
Not that I believe that figure for a moment, sounds like the Mail pulling figures out of thin air.
