I can't see anyone paying that for him at this stage in his career and in this economic climate.

It’s almost as foolish as giving him a pay rise when he has two years left on his current deal……..

Sell sell sell. If I see another pointless looping ball to mane at the far post (that gets nowhere near mane) I’ll blow a fuse.

Isn’t this thread about Hendo? Can’t believe some of these comments. He’s been fundamental to our recent success and ppl want to sell him? Insanity!

My post was in jest, however, it needs to be sorted ASAP, either way, in the next two weeks, don’t want to be going into next season with a captain who is stalling in a contract with everything else that brings.

He has been a huge part of our success through both his on and off the pitch contributions. A year ago we were talking about him as player of the year. Given his injuries and his age to a certain extent I can understand the club not being keen to offer him a big payrise or a long term contract, but getting rid of him would be madness especially when we have just lost Wijnaldum. I have said this before but we need to be finding his successor and currently we don't have anyone who comes close, for me we shouldn't even consider letting him go before the end of his contract, the way I see it is we have 2 years of him to held develop his successor and even then I would hope we could keep him around beyond that in the 'Milner elder statesman role'.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The difference is Milner was rarely injured. Hendo should not get another contract until he can go through a season without a longterm injury. He is contracted until 33 which is when most players start to retire. Not sure whast he wants. It not like he is financially insecure. And we are not rich enough to pay him top wages indefinitely. Not sure what the rush is.

Totally understand not giving him a bumper contract beyond his current one, but agree that selling him now is not a good option either.

Of course, it may just be his agent thinking that he deserves one more bumper payday after all of the hard work he has put in over the years. They do a difficult job with very little acknowledgement, and after everything he has done, with Henderson taking all of the credit, who would begrudge him a bit more money...

I don't want him sold, but nor do I think we should bend over backwards to offer him a new deal when he still has 2 years to go on his current one. We have a year to negotiate and weigh up our options, and if we still cannot come to an agreement that suits both parties, we either let him see out his contract or let him move for a smaller fee.

Totally agree. Hopefully it’s just his agent looking after his client.
