I don’t get what the urgency is with hendo- he has 2 years left on his contract right? If I was running things, I’d tell him we’ll start the talks bout a new contract after Christmas, in time for next summer… if we have to let him run out his contract so be it.

He’s earning big money (rightly so) at the moment. He’s pretty old and has a bit of an injury record. 2 years from now, he might be a shadow of the player he is now. Why would we give him an extra few years now, and bump up his wages. If he has a decent season, showing no signs of slowing up, surely next summer would be plenty time to reward him with a new contract.
    I don't tip

Salah on the verge of signing a new contract. I’d imagine there is a view on Succession planning. I doubt it is spending £200m on Mbappe. Where it becomes interesting is next summer - Halaands release kicks in and Mbappe could be on a ‘free’.

With Hendo - I’d just be surprised to see us lose a pivotal player… but who knows.
No doubt, but do those plans equal success on the pitch.

Think we got fortunate in a sense with the astronomical fee for coutinho. Allowed us to do what rafa never could.. To complete the first team.

It's going to be interesting, think we need to prepare ourselves for some top 4 challenges.

Surely we'll just let Hendo run out his contract? Maybe best for all? He can then sign a new one or leave. No drama..... surely?
        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Either way we'll be priced well out of it

Nah, give Mbappe a top LFC wage and a hefty signing-on fee spread out over his contract length, and he'll be on a nice earner.

Liverpool clearly have a plan. They are signing a new midfielder and bearing in mind the age and consistency of Henderson they have decided that they can afford to let him leave. It makes sense that he goes this Summer if they have a replacement lined up. Give the armband to VVD, and bring in the fresh legs.

He has probably been offered only pittance like 100K a week... poor *******, how will he survive...

Or we don't let him leave this summer, keep him on his current contract and keep negotiations going for the next year, and if no agreement is reached either we get a moderate fee for him, or he sees out his contract and moves on. But selling him this summer...I can't see it.

Yeah two years left on his contract so plenty of time for both parties to decide whether staying or going is the preferred option. If he was a couple years younger than it would make sense to extend his contract now, but as is, it makes sense to keep communications going, as you said, and come next summer either side can make a decision.

But IF he was lining up a move away this summer, then there would have to be a Goretzka level player coming in to replace him on the pitch. Replacing him off of the pitch is another things altogether but can only hope we have others of similar good character dotted around the squad to take on some of the off field stuff.

I've said this before but I think that Henderson is probably the player that we need to think about succession planning for more than anyone. We need to bring someone in ahead of him leaving (be that retirement or transfer). I am somewhat surprised that there are suggestions of him leaving as I had imagined he would have moved into the Milner type role of senior pro not playing every week but able to do a good job when he comes in and potentially fill in in a few different roles.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                            It'll be Trent, innit.

Trent as captain? I can think of 5 others I'd put above him.

                                Succession wise? 5?

Mo - will be off in 2-3 seasons tops
                                VVD - Same
                                Robbo - Maybe
                                Fabinho, Allison - No

Can't think of many others TBH
