I maybe get your point that people shouldn't be so shocked he's sold out, as despicable as it is for him to go there. But what's all that about virtue signalling exactly? His work to promote the LGBTQ rights?Originally posted by danperkins View Post
some people just can't help but buy into the fake disingenuous virtual signalling some footballer do. Most of them are Lea brains, greedy and full of ****. 12m quid with add ons, we'll take it.

I think it's just optics mate. Like when footballers say things to appease the fans. It sounds good so say it. He clearly knew if he signed that it would make him look like a grade a disingenuous cunt. As I said previously, I'm looking forward to the statement he makes. I have no doubts it'll be some bull**** word vomit about trying to change the system within and working to achieve blah blah blah.Originally posted by Fuzzy View PostI maybe get your point that people shouldn't be so shocked he's sold out, as despicable as it is for him to go there. I'm just delighted we got a few quid for a bloke on a few hundred grand pw that couldn't run.

I feel the need to somewhere put on record (this place is as good and as meaningless as any) my profound disappointment with this move.
Henderson seemed to hold himself to a higher moral standard more than not just other footballers, but the rest of us.
He was a visibly present supporter of equality in all its forms, he's organised his colleagues to do more and give more to society during the pandemic.
That, to me at least, was important. It was more than purely playing for my team.
So now he's basically chucked all of that into the bin and he's taking the blood money from people who he was previously vocally critical of, at least implicitly if not explicitly. He's killed his legacy.
For what, going from being able to afford a Ferrari or two per week to maybe owning his own yacht? Or is it actually for footballing reasons?
Either way, I'm really pissed off with this.
I'm ****ed off with any player or manager going to the middle east to be the face of a sportwashing project. But with Henderson, it is much worse.Oh I don't know.

100% this - Milly and Hendo and their standard are gone…… now let others step up and we can have the freshest of fresh starts. I’m surprised he’s gone there tbh but the Gerrard factor plus that club’s president is a huge red is why they pushed for himOriginally posted by Kenneth View PostAnyway, **** that guy.
The rebuild is in full swing.
His legs were gone and his contract was an absolute milestone - this is very exciting tbh and let’s see our data and analytics guys earn their money now

The bit I don't understand about that is "their own volition". Surely if you are forced to play in a tournament you don't agree with people get that, but if you decide to do it with nothing compelling you that does make you a hypocrite? Why not just not be a hypocrite at all?Originally posted by dom9 View PostExperimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I think that's alluding to the golf scenario where LIV have taken a massive stake in the sport itself.Originally posted by Venton View PostThe bit I don't understand about that is "their own volition". If you find yourself in that situation, what do you? Stop playing golf? That is a nightmare tbh.
But also, say you're a Newcastle player in the Mike Ashley era and then you find yourself playing for a state backed team like they have become. Do you ask for a transfer?Oh I don't know.

I think if I'd make a big noise about social issues and then took the shilling of a regime that were against them I'd do my best to move, if not immediately then at the end of my contract. I'd definitely like to think that if I was minted I wouldn't actively move to that kind of club to become even more minted. That would definitely make me a hypocrite. Having said that maybe the money would change me, like all the books say it does.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI think that's alluding to the golf scenario where LIV have taken a massive stake in the sport itself.

Yep. It's easy to criticise. It's not a situation that most of us are likely to find ourselves in.Originally posted by Venton View PostI think if I'd make a big noise about social issues and then took the shilling of a regime that were against them I'd do my best to move, if not immediately then at the end of my contract. But that doesn't make it wrong to do so either.Oh I don't know.
