He has had talks with other clubs though I think?
Maybe there was personal stuff too. But the fact the club stopped making ‘Edwards’ type decisions a good 2 years before he left, followed by the departures of a slew of his recruitment/data guys and scouts all adds weight to the idea that he and his department weren’t being listened to anymore imo..

I don't get all the vitriol on this thread. It seems most think he needed to leave about now. Yes we gave him a further two years, but we are out of that obligation with £12m in our hands. Why don't we just move on.
Those who think he is a hypocrite for saying all those positive things about women's rights and LGBTplus rights and then taking the Saudi shilling need to be absolutely sure they are not in a glass house before they start throwing stones.

It is from one specific bellendOriginally posted by rudedog View PostIt's not exactly vitriol
Henderson is 33 and has presumably been told that, having spent best part of £100m on players in his position; he might well not play all that much this season
I've absolutely zero problem with him wanting to move to be able to continue playing at his age
Of course where he's gone to, given his previous form re human rights is pretty disgusting; but I can't imagine he was exactly inundated with offersI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

For the umpteenth time, he's in a financial position to make those choices. Most people can't. **** all that noise about setting his family up for life, if they're not set up already then us mere mortals are really ****ed.Originally posted by Paul12 View PostThose who think he is a hypocrite for saying all those positive things about women's rights and LGBTplus rights and then taking the Saudi shilling need to be absolutely sure they are not in a glass house before they start throwing stones. Was muß, das muß.

I think what this just shows is that these guys are largely just cliched dumb footballers. They're good at kicking a ball around on some grass. They should not be looked at as role models (other than how to train and be in top physical condition) or political activists, despite them often being held in such regard.
They will do whatever makes them the most money in their short careers. They have their management and PR marketing teams behind them telling them exactly what to do and how to progress their careers. Like the majority of this world, it's all manufactured for 'likes' and 'lols' on social media. They'll jump on whatever bandwagon they're told to.
Looking up to them as these higher-beings is only going to lead to disappointment."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah
"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey

Absolutely, I look at this sport as nothing more than entertainment. Even if we sold our entire squad and had to buy 24 players over the summer (totally improbable of course), I'd just go with it, it's great fun!Originally posted by Harv View PostI think what this just shows is that these guys are largely just cliched dumb footballers. I'm not upset over Henderson's move - it makes no material difference (MTB parts notwithstanding) to me but it did to minorities he's helped support.
But Harv is right, they're all rich cunts. Was muß, das muß.

For the most part yes to your post, but you do have guys who do a lot of good stuff and stay somewhat under the rader so that it is not PR fluff.
Andy Robertson and Roy Keane spring to mind on that front. With the latter continuing to back certain causes long after his football days ended and turning up in person to muck in. Keane only says yes to cameras if the organisation asks for it so they get some publicity.
Robertson does a lot for foodbanks and has done that ever since he signed his first pro contract in Scotland. He is involved with the same in Liverpool and, like Roy Keane in Cork, he will turn up as a volunteer with no social media heads to take pics and do a full shift.
Rashford I think is a good role model in many ways for young kids too as I get the impression what he champions is personal to him and not done to look good.
Then you have guys like Mane and Koulibaly who use a % of their wages since tuirning pro to help the villages they came from and who have set up funds so that aid continues after they retire.
Role models should be judged by their continued actions. Some footballers are genuine role models but like with any walk of life most are not true role models.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

100% on this. It drives me insane when I hear your average working man coming out with things like "well, its a short career" and "if another company offered to double your wages you'd go", well yes, of course I bloody would!Originally posted by Fosterbloke View PostFor the umpteenth time, he's in a financial position to make those choices. I'm an average man earning an average salary and whilst I'm still earning the sort of money which means I have to put money aside every month to pay for a decent holiday in a year or two's time, or I gulp when I see the garage bill to repair my 10 year old car, whilst putting a bit away each month to hopefully ensure I can retire at 65, (just covering the very basic costs of living), it means I need the money, as do 99% of us.
It's pure greed, nothing more, nothing less. Its up to them, their choice, but **** me, have the sense to call it out for what it is.Glass half empty club

Nah not sure i agree to be honest. These guys are professional footballers. I know we are all lfc fans, but they are professional. So altgough some players might dream of certain clubs, whether its lfc or real madrid or whoever, they are still professionals. Someone like Firmino or Mane will have an affinity to LFC having been here 7 or 8 years or whatever, they will buy into the club. But they were both born in some shed in the back arse of nowhere, probably lived on pennies during his childhood. If he has say 25m in the bank and this Saudi team can turn that into 60m before he retires, then fair ****s to him i say.
So why should Henderson be any different?? Just because he was born in the back arse of Sunderland instead???
I wont watch that ****e league to be honest but i dont begrudge them it. And people like Ruben Neves who went in their peak years. Do people think he really left a top side in Portugal to join Wolves for anything other than money???
The thing with Henderson is that he portrayed himself as the great defender of the LGBTQ+ community. But that is because it is good for his brand ffs. Just like the likes of Beckham and Gary Neville have turned a blind eye to their "values" and taken the cash on offer with other opportunities.
