I think we should certainly be looking to buy leaders, players who can and will stand up to be counted as I don't think we have enough of those. Pretty difficult though to buy a player with a view to him becoming captain immediately, I would think a manager would want to develop some sort of rapport with a player first and see how well he leads in the dressing room, interacts with his new team mates etc.

If we get some big personalities, how will Henderson handle them as captain? He couldn't get the ball off Mario to take a penalty. I don't want to be over critical of him, I like him a lot, but Gerrard leaving is going to leave a big gap that Henderson probably can't fill.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I think he will make the step up. As soon as Gerrard is properly gone, players will realise what's required of them. A lot more on the pitch. The influence Gerrard has had at Liverpool and for someone like Henderson to even be close to that it's a great opportunity for him. He has shown enough to prove he can step it up even more.

Are you honestly suggesting Can over Henderson Slinky? Jeepers dude don't you think that's a bit premature? He's only got 2 full seasons of football under his belt and hasn't even nailed down his favoured position on the pitch yet for us. Maybe in a few years but no chance of it now.
Skrtel would be sensible if leadership most definitely wasn't one of his attributes. I honestly think it has to be Henderson, and he is the sort of guy who could step up once again and fill those shoes, but at the moment it is sort-of by default.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

shocking. is this the best we have got. poor options, no leaders.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

And what happens if we get a player in the summer who is a big personality as well as being good on the pitch? Do we excuse Henderson for going into his shell whenever that player is on the pitch?
If he is to be the captain, then he cannot be shrinking and going into hiding when there is a big personality in the team with him.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Why does he shrink with Gerrard there. **** that he should feel 7ft tall playing alongside that legend and raise his game. Spineless season 1 version of Henderson is back it seems.Originally posted by Norbs View PostNot fair. If he is to be the captain, then he cannot be shrinking and going into hiding when there is a big personality in the team with him.Because when Gerrard plays Henderson isn't captain so has a more menial duty to perform.Originally posted by Tee View PostWhy does he shrink with Gerrard there. **** that he should feel 7ft tall playing alongside that legend and raise his game. Going to find out in July, regardless of opinion

You can't judge Henderson's ability as captain on an end of season game where not a single player turned up. Half of them played like they were on holiday; the other half like they knew Rodgers was on his bike.
It's the players as a collective that need to look at their own performance with a huge question mark over Rodgers' ability to turn this team around since Manchester United at home.
Let's not make Henderson an escaped goat; there are bigger issues that need dealing with.
