Hes not irreplaceable you are correctOriginally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View Post
If any player wants to be the top dog or one of the top dogs at the club in terms of wages then they had better make sure that they are putting in the type of performances more often than not that make them essential to the team's fortunes.
Not close to being irreplaceable and not completely essential to the first team? Then go try some other mugs if you think you deserve to be a top earner based on where you were born.
Its what you would have to pay to replace him
He will go for roughly what we paid for him £13-16 million
I dont think we will find a player of that quality or better for anywhere near that kind of money plus remember we will probably have to pay them a similar wage to what Hendo is asking
Its pretty certain we won get into the CL next season barring a miracle and in order to attract half decent players we are going to have to pay over the odds in terms of wages
The problem we have is that the players we arent desperate to keep at all cost will accept smaller increases in their salaries yet that money is probably coming out of the budgets for some of the better players we should be making an effort at keepingBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. We might get better than him but it will cost a bigger financial package than the one Henderson wantsOriginally posted by cream View PostI'd be disappointed if we don't get better than Henderson this summer.
Still I would hope we do bring someone in because the thought of losing Henderson because we wont meet his wage demands and giving Joe Allen a pay rise doesnt inspire confidence in the direction of the clubBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. i dont think henderson is that good, but he is better than most of what we have.
its sad to think we were nearly champions last year and now we are struggling for leaders, players who will dig in and give that bit extra. too many lightweights.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Can might turn out to be the best in future but right now that man is Hendo
One question for those in here, if you had a choice between bumping up Hendersons contract to the level he wants or increasing the wages of lesser players within the squad. What would you do??Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

If Hendo is asking for 100k I'd meet him there, this is his one of his big contracts as well, might get another raise in the next one but probably not after that.Originally posted by Lecter View PostAt the moment hes the best midfielder we have

All depends on what the level he wants is.
If he wants circa £90k to £100k then that would be about as high as I would go, but if he want £130k, £150k or higher, then not a chance.
As for the arguement that getting an improvement in would be far more expensive, well that depends on how much Henderson actually wants in wages and how much the replacement would want.
Take Pjanic for example, he signed his new contract last year and given that his new contract only out him in the £45k to £50k bracket then he might see a contract that gives him £80k or £90k a week as enough to make him want to move.
So if Henderson wanted £150k a week and Pjanic would play for £90k we straight away are saving £3m a year on wages. Over the length of a four year contract that comes to £12m.
Say we sell Henderson and get £13m to £16m for him. Then we buy Pjanic for around £25m to £30m and we are paying him £60k less a week that what it would have cost to keep Henderson.
Over the course of Pjanic's contract that would leave us breaking even or possible only spending an extra two million to bring in a guy who looks like he would be an upgrade.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

The problem with losing Sterling and Henderson isn't just about how replaceable they are, sure on a one on one basis, we probably could find players of equal standard (or better) across the European market who are cheaper - a major problem doing that is that there will yet another season without continuity, perpetual transition. Henderson is settled and a major contributor across a number of positions (which might in itself be an issue).
They really need to nail his contract down.

Staggered that some still think Henderson is replaceable, if he leaves us it's to play for a better team.
Ergo, if a better team wants him then he's more than good enough to play for us.
Henderson would get into all the other top 4 teams because none of them have his type of player, physically fit, rarely injured, uses the ball well, shuts down and begun to add goals and assists over the last 12-18 months.
He's better than Cocqulen, Arteta, Fernando, Fernandiho, Mikel, Willian, Wilshere, Herrera, Carrick, etc......
Rather than adding a premium Henderson is undervalued because he's English, he's been our best/most consistent midfielder for the past 2 seasons.
Granted there are better midfielders playing elsewhere but we should be looking to buy one to play alongside him, not to replace him.The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Just to confirm, I don't want him to leave. I pretty much agree with everything you've said there, but was relating to Jaco's Pjanic purchase / Henderson sale. They're not like for like replacements by any means, I think he was meaning the squad place being taken.
Henderson's importance was only magnified by the Arsenal game where he was stuck out at WB and the midfield, bolstered by the magnificent Joe Allen, was completely sterile, out thought, out manoeuvred and embarrassingly dominated.
Its just a shame wee Joe's contract wasn't the one with a few months left on it.

I agree but not at any price. He is good but needs to improve further to be Suarez/Sturridge/Peak Gerrard class of wages.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Yeah, but we don't know the actual amounts that are being talked about. Also, time has moved on since Gerrard signed his contracts, so the amounts we're talking for active first team players (captains, no less) is going up again after the TV revenue went up. Maybe they could have saved themselves an issue by handing the vice captaincy to Lucas or Skrtel. Its definitely strengthened Jordan's bargaining position.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostI agree but not at any price. Suarez was on 200.000, Gerrard on 150.000 wasn't he? But Gerrards contract was signed on those terms a while ago, he'd probably have signed a 200.000 a week contract today.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostI agree but not at any price.
