I wouldn't be against paying Henderson 90-110.000, he's one of my first names on the paper, maybe even the first one. And I think it doesn't do us any good the treat the club as a top club when we are budgeting to be a EURO cup club. Maybe we should just concede that we don't set the target at a top four finish in the future. We can't attract top players to the club and we can't keep hold of our best players. Kind of heading just one way isn't it?Originally posted by Muddled View PostWhy publicly?
Oh, and what's the market rate?* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I still believe we wont get better than Henderson elsewhere on the market for the package he wantsOriginally posted by McDermotX View PostI would be massively surprised if he left, given the position he's carved out for himself, but then football is a 'funny old game'.
He's a very good player, but he's not a ****ing great player and his end product stats are still not near the level we hope he'll find as his career progresses.
But he's a regular, odds on to be the next captain, featuring for England etc, and frankly, he's one of the hardest workers in the playing staff, but we need to be realistic as to his worth. I don't fancy him as a '120k a week' player (or whatever the rumours were a couple weeks back) at this stage of his career, and an amount under that and what we offer in lowball is probably right.
As for players maximizing their worth, that's fair enough, but even in football, a semblance of realism is to be expected, and right now he's a player playing for the 5th best team who are not CL regulars and are not overly challenging for the major honours. If he thinks he can earn more or the same as players at the big boys table, that's fair enough, he can chase the money elsewhere and we'll have our answer as to whether he thinks his future is with us.
2x his current wages for a non-CL side is pretty good going, even for a footballer with ridiculous notions.

If we dont offer the money he wants (or very near to it) hes gone (imo)Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostDo yo think Henderson will go? I have kind of been assuming he would just sign after a little bit of negotiation. He's a good player but as people have said I doubt Real Madrid or Barcelona would come knocking, and if one of the top 4 came in for him I don't think he could be certain of a starting spot. IMO where he is at the moment the opportunity of regular football and the chance to captain LFC isn't something he should consider chucking away lightly.
For me the Sterling situation is different, he does have the potential to be a world class player if he continues his development and where he available I wouldn't be surprised if some top clubs came in for him, (how much game time he would get for them is another story). I would hope Jordan is sensible enough to realise what he has.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I know we tend to trivialise it but the fact they are english also matters a great deal. City and Chelsea would both look at buying quality english players for their squads IMO and Arsenal could also take a look. This quota thing is not going away and there are only so many quality English players out there, it'd be a shame to be forced to play **** players only because they are English.* The above is posted in my opinion. 100k a week includes the English tax for me.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI know we tend to trivialise it but the fact they are english also matters a great deal. If someone wants to pay him 150k+ (if he even values himself at that and I suspect not), then they are more than welcome.
We are an 'outside the top 4' team for the foreseeable future (under the current ownership arrangement), so throwing around 150k a week contracts willynilly is out of the question.
That goes for his mate as well."I will make the boys feel your support"

Didn't he reject an 80k one? I think he'd be worth 100k. both to us and other teams. Who else in the team contributes more than him?Originally posted by McDermotX View Post100k a week includes the English tax for me.

Originally posted by McDermotX View PostI think players of Jordan's ilk need to look a bit closer at themselves, and recognize the fortunate situation they are in.
I do like him, and think he's a good player, but he's not top-top tier quality and never will be IMO - it's not like Real or Barca will be knocking on his door. That's not to say he cannot be a fixture for us for his entire career, and while not my first choice of character, he'll probably be captaining the side for the foreseeable future and figuring for England (although that shouldn't hold him back).
I think any delay is just posturing, and I don't think there's any danger of him not signing, but it'll probably be closer to 100k, which I would guess is about 2x what he's on. That's pretty good for a player of his level, which would be allowed to grow as he stays at the club and proves to be an important member.
Edit - actually checking out that supposed list of wages, Henderson is on 55k now. Even Skrtel, who has been at the club since 2008, is on 90k. Think a deal deal for Henderson around the same is pretty good."I will make the boys feel your support"

If any player wants to be the top dog or one of the top dogs at the club in terms of wages then they had better make sure that they are putting in the type of performances more often than not that make them essential to the team's fortunes.
Not close to being irreplaceable and not completely essential to the first team? Then go try some other mugs if you think you deserve to be a top earner based on where you were born.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
