Can wouldn't get in that side either. I don't think it's harsh, I think it's being realistic of what level Henderson is at, at the same or similar ages to the players I quoted.

But whatever, whilst not rating Henderson as highly as most on this site I do think him leaving in the summer would be extremely disruptive to the team.

So what's the "market rate" that Liverpool should offer him then... £110,000 a week over 4 years making him the club's highest paid player once Gerrard leaves if that salary list posted earlier is accurate?

Come on, be fair. We have someone good enough to have gone on to a long career at Barca during their pomp, a player who went to RM and is now dominating the Bundesliga in his twilight years, and Stevie G.

I don't think its really fair to compare anyone to that.

If they were all here in their peak I don't think there's a single player in world football who would displace them.

Very very good players and perfectly balanced.

So say Jordan wouldn't get in is prettying much meaningless.

FSG's policy is to squeeze every penny, that's the reason why in the main they renegotiate with 18 months to go meaning we keep players on a cheaper contract for 1 year longer.
We'll get bitten at some point but I think both Sterling and Hendo will sign new deals in the summer.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

That's the thing. Every now and then he shows the passing ability of Alonso, the tenacity of Maschersno and the shooting ability of Gerrard but it's all got to come together. There is massive potential there though. World class all round midfielder..

And more energy and effort level than any of those three. He's well on his way to being a monster in our midfield

He is his own man, his tackling is worse than Mascherano, his passing his worse than Alonso and his finishing is worse than Gerrard, yet his drive is on a par of Gerrard in his pomp and he's much more positionally disciplined than Gerrard ever was. He's a more progressive footballer than Mascherano and he's significantly more mobile than Alonso.

A fair summary, he's still a long way to go though- but that's a reflection on their brilliance, not his failings. He has become an important- and exciting- player for us.

This has to be looked at in terms of value to the team and the cost to replicate that if he leaves.

I guess he must be asking for at the very least parity with Balotelli - which is fair enough as he adds infinitely more to our team obviously. He should be asking for more than Mario tbh.

The cost of replacing him would be far greater than paying him pretty much what he wants, assuming his demands are not too unrealistic. We would have to actually sign a player (£15-20 mill?) to replace his value to the team and beat our rivals to sign said player. We would then have to pay them a big enough wage to get them to sign in the first place. Then cross our fingers that he fits in straight away, stays injury free like JH and has the same energy, which is crucial to our play. Unrealistic imo. Plus our transfer dealings are never straightforward.

True, he will make his own name without needing to be compared and he is appreciated for different qualities than those players. All of those guys were perfect for Rafa Benitez's style of play, but the stamina, ability to press and the work rate of Henderson is crucial for Brendan Rodgers, and means he is a better fit in this current team than any of those 3 would be.

I think a fully fit Mascherano would be sensational in our team to be honest. Not sure if he's got the legs he used to have though given he only seems to play at CB these days.

He looked pretty good at the world cup.

Hendo is growing into a complete midfielder, certainly the best English midfielder currently playing.
