What I like about our current back 3 is they cover for each other very well. Sakho and Can had some dodgy moments today and Skrtel was there to bail them out and vice versa in other games.

Skrtel had a very good game and has played well for a while. The back 3 formation suits his game well as he covers very well and it takes away from the deficiencies in his game (namely positioning in a back 2).

The overall blend of this defensive unit has suited us really well as you say Skrtel bailed the other two today and other occasions it's been the other way round.

My views on him are pretty well known but he has been very very good recently. Still wouldn't want him in a back 4 and it'll be interesting to see how the back 3 works with Lovren in it and Can in midfield.

He's been excellent as of late, I think the switch to a back 3 has really helped all our defensive players though it just seems to suit us and the players we have available.

This is the key isn't it - reliable. For now though. How long can he keep it up? I've always defended Skrtel over the years in the face of what I thought was OTT criticism. He can defend, capable of being among the best in the league, but he's so rash sometimes, so erratic and unreliable that it undermines the good things he brings to the table. He's not really strung anything more than one great season together - the best do it year in year out.

But it's great to see - at the moment there can't be many better individual centre halves in the league than Skrtel. Maybe Sakho. Maybe Can.

I just wish he could look dangerous in the opponents box at corners, though a lot/most of that is down to the delivery.

I've said it for a long time, when he isn't surrounded by clowns he's as dependable as any.

Doesn't have to worry about whats going on next to him, he started the season with Johnson to the right and Lovren to the left.

Skrtel wasn't dependable playing alongside either of those, he was the weak link in both those partnerships

I thought whenever he played with Carra he did well, we suffered when him and Agger were together because both had been so used to being led by a commanding figure.

Same goes for Agger, looked good next to Carra, never quite as good without IMO.

Sky didn't show it (I don't think) looked like they missed it and even on the replay he was already on the floor. My first reaction was he was wasting time but like you say there was a bit of reaction from our players.

Certainly have..........seen them jumping to get involved when one of them has fallen foul over the last while. The Costa incidents spring to mind.

He was excellent again yesterday, I like how they've got little partnerships going now and help eachother out when one is not playing his best or made a mistake. Skrtel has covered for Can at times, Can was bailing Skrtel out at Bolton, they've helped Sakho out in the last few games etc etc.
