OK fair enough. But can he actually defend? All well and good stroking it around but if he can't head or tackle or loses out in challenges what's the point? You have nothing to go on apart from limited french league appearances.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Thought Agger was the guy, when paired with him, that Skrtel seemed to have the least brain farts with.
Skrtel's best season was 11/12 when he played most games beside Agger (why didn't we take City's £20m?). Last year was arguably his next best, despite having quite a few forgettable performances. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I agree with that. Get him back and play him in the Europa and perhaps bench option in league and if we were coasting in a game bring him on for 10 15 mins. League cup isn't enough reason alone.Originally posted by redmike65 View PostWell we'll never know if he is not played, what Rodgers decides will Ilori will be interesting to see. I'd have him as a League Cup/EL player and let him earn his spurs there, fear he will take the easy way out and loan or sell him though.
I think this is where we should be stealing a march on other clubs. Let's start utilising our bench. You can bloody 7 on it, and I think regardless of squad size, we should have 2 youngsters at all times. Then use one of the 3 subs if possible to get them on the pitch. None of this bringing Lambert on for a minute or two. Get the youngster on. Get them involved. Get them motivated. Get something out of this kid fascination, otherwise we look a bit Rolf Harris.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

And he had another naturally left footed quality LCB beside him during his (and the team's) best run of form last season.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Martin Skrtel slams contract hoax – defender has not signed new deal after all
The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Martin Skrtel had signed a new deal, but they were duped by a fake Facebook profile which claimed a deal was done.
According to the Daily Express – who quote both the defender and his agent – this is definitely NOT the case.
As the source states, Skrtel has held talks with Liverpool over an extension. However, he remains unimpressed with the offer which is currently on the table, branding the deal as ‘unacceptable’.
The 30-year-old has since been on international duty with Slovakia and hasn’t had the chance for further discussion with the club.
Asked whether he had indeed renewed his deal, Skrtel responded angrily: “I have my own profile on Facebook. I use it for communication with my fans and I operate it through the agency Stars and Friends.
“I strongly disavow the profile on which the false information was published. I have not created the profile and I do not have a clue who the administrator is.”
The Express believe that Skrtel is unhappy about a specific clause in the new deal which offers bonuses coinciding with the amount of time he spends on the pitch. As a result of this, his initial wage has been reduced, something which he feels is unfair.
Of course, he has a point. The veteran centre-back has been an integral player for us over the last couple of seasons and is now closing in on 300 games for the club. While such a deal might be appropriate for someone like Kolo Toure, this seems a rather unfair way to treat one of our most loyal servants.
His agent Karol Csonto agrees, adding: “At the moment I can confirm that we are negotiating the matter with the club, but we have not signed the contract yet. We will inform fans and media when it happens.”Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
