don't believe it was a pen at all. Given where the contact was and the direction Costa was moving, any touch that disrupted his path would have forced him away from Skrtel - his dive was across the front of Skrtel in the direction of the contact
One of the things that is normally so frustrating with Skrtel is he looks mean as ****, but he plays and acts like an absolute pussycat. He's now starting to lead and play with a bit of belief handle himself a bit better and lead the charge as opposed to lurking in the shadows. You need a dominant CB to show some belief and responsibility and Skrtel is beginning to show he is capable, look at Carra - hardly Franz Beckenbaur, but what he lacked in ability he made up for in character, organisation, and determination.
I tried looking for a GIF but I gave up and ended up with that picture. To be fair, the picture could suit either end of the argument. I'd be raging if we didn't get that call, so if say it was a penalty that wasn't given because Costa was too theatrical.
Babel against Arsenal in the Champions League Quarter Final is the perfect example as to how to go down with minimal contact.
Made Costa look very average over both legs, he's a good defender when not surrounded by incompetence. I think all modern day defenders have bad moments, Kompany for example makes so many errors and is considered one of the best about by many.
