I'm not sure Delph is the answer though, I'd like us to look for class players, Pjanic etc. we need to sign established stars to along with the up-and comers. Not against Delph coming as well though. Another summer of upheaval awaits.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Last season earned him another year after this one IMO.
To put things in perspective last season we did a remarkable job in challenging for the title, but this year losing Suarez we were never going to do as well as last year. Add to that the loss of Sturridge for most of the season with injury and the fact that the summer signings not working out have left us with very little goal threat.
Despite this we are currently sitting 5th in the table and reached the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions. We have 47 PL goals this season which given we scored over 100 last season shows where the problem is. Of the 15 PL games we have failed to win this season the results would have changed (from a loss into a draw, or a draw into a win) if we had scored another goal. Someone capable of getting 20 PL goals a season would have made a huge difference, you can easily imagine that we would have been on a similar number of points to Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City - these 3 sides have conceded about the same number of goals as us but have all scored about 20 more, and that for me is the difference.
This summer we need to bring in strikers who will get goals. Next season we won't have Gerrard around who IMO has been a disruption to the side when he has come back in because everyone's roles in midfield change to accomodate him. We will have Can and Sakho who have had another year of football at the club, Lallana who is a better player than he has shown so far will hopefully be like new signing, and hopefully we will have a fit Sturridge and Lucas available every week. I would like to think that we can't be as bad/unlucky next year as we have been this. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Is Pjanic, strong, physical and does he win a lot of possession?
For me those are the sort of player we need
Big strong lads who can hold people off, put their foot in when needed and play a bit

Good post, but yesterday used up all his credit in my book. It was meek, timid, defeatist and lame - he couldn't motivate the team enough to get to a cup final. The players didn't even look bothered. There were no midfielders on the bench and no options to bring on as a "game changer". We have to live in the present, and this is the man who mocked Spurs for spending £100m and can't put together a bench worth naming after spending all the Suarez profit and more.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostLast season earned him another year after this one IMO.
All that, and the embarrassing European performances... its time for a change.

I think we need to be honest, do we believe that Rodgers can build on this and succeed at this club? I think he can't, his biggest failing is the player recruitment which is haphazard but I do feel he has done several good things which the next manager can build on. There are certain foundations in place for us but we need another manager IMO to take us to the next level.
We need to strengthen the spine of the team, I'd take Rafa and offer him the chance to bring Higuain and Hamsik with him

Hence the etc. I do agree we need strength and power through the spine of the team.Originally posted by Lecter View PostIs Pjanic, strong, physical and does he win a lot of possession?

We need another top class striker
We need another decent centrehalf
We need a new rightback (maybe even a leftback)
We need a dedicated holding midfield player
We need another midfielder who can help out both defensive and attacking wise but also who offers a bit of beef when needed (maybe Can could do this, maybe)
Thats before you get near other positions that could possibly be improved upon (leftback as mentioned above and goalkeeper)
My wish is for a manager to come in and genuinely solve some of the problems we have
Going into last summer we needed similar players but either didnt buy them or bought complete ****eBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I agree with this, and while I'm a Rodgers fan I'd also accept this criticism of him.Originally posted by Lecter View PostIs Pjanic, strong, physical and does he win a lot of possession?

I think Rodgers has to adopt his philosophy slightly, get a big, dominant centre midfielder to compliment Coutinho, allow Henderson to just shut the ball down and use it simply.
We need a better combination of styles, maybe Can will show himself to be a dominant CM now he's had a year to settle in, he needs a full pre season definitely. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Big **** off or aggressive midfielders, as he was quite fond of collecting them
That said I am not sure he would be right for us long term
Would love Rafa to come back and sort the defence and midfield out

I don't think we need all those, despite being awful defensively last season and the start of this we have only conceded 12 goals in our last 15 games (6 of which were in the games against Arsenal and Man Utd). We need to figure out the system we want to play, if we are sticking with 3 at the back we don't need a RB and a LB. If we are going to a back 4 we need a RB but more importantly we need to sort the issues with our soft centre, this is either a new CB or more likely a DM Lucas would be fine if he could stay fit. Whatever happens we need a strikerOriginally posted by Lecter View PostWhoever is manager next season has a massive rebuilding job to do

The problem is that for me it isn't obvious what system we plan to play, until we know that there is no point putting a shopping list together. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

As regards Rodgers having no plan B he did... and he also had a Plan C,D & E too. The problem was that for me they seemed more a bit of vague guess work than actual solutions. Hoping rather than solving. Sure we'll switch this, this and this & if that doesn't work we'll try this, this and this. I thought Rodgers simply didn't know what to do yesterday & that IMO is worrying against a very inexperienced manager. There has been just too many games this season in which he's picked wrong personnel & looked tactically naive.
Not sure whether i'm in the Rodgers out camp just yet but I don't think i would be to bothered if he left...providing we got a top man in to replace him. Short of a minor miracle this season really has turned out to be a big disappointment. Things looked so promising at the end of last season, I thought we were back
Looking at this season:
- Terrible first few months
- Playing players in wrong positions
- Persisting with under performing players
- Out of champs league without so much as a whimper
- Out of Europa league without so much as a whimper
- Change in personnel and formation
- Brilliant few months to get back into the top 4 race
- Formation found out.
- Bottled United, Arsenal & Villa in FA Cup.
A strong finish would be nice but IMO our recent dip in form and performance is due a lot to the system getting found out obviously but I just think our players, especially our young players.. are just burned out. I think we had such a ****e start that we've used so much energy up trying to get back into the champ league race... that in the business end of the season we are just bolloxed. We've faltered and Arsenal & United have kicked in at the perfect time.
Can, Henderson & Moreno look absolutely bolloxed. Can looks like he's running with lead boots & Moreno concentration levels and positioning are questionable. I never expected both Can & Moreno to play so much in their first season. Said Moreno was too raw and that has been quite evident this season, hopefully we'll see him push on next season.
Henderson had some great productively & his passing has improved dramatically but he his defensive game has suffered IMO & he has got caught out a bit in deep positions. IMO he spend so much energy covering Stevie & Allen in the first 3 and half months or so that his legs went a bit. Without Lucas in the side to cover, our midfield look fragile and very light weight.
No doubts FSG will examine things at the end of the season, maybe a strong finish from us will be the difference to whether he'll be here or not next season. Whatever happens we need to put the young potential talent on hold for next season & get some experienced quality in there because we lack are sorely lacking leaders. Another clear out next season & yet another rebuilding season.
