Yeah, sorry that's what I meant. They didn't sign many established players from the lower half of the table, just the youngsters who were showing promise and could develop. Whereas we signed 26 and 27 year olds who were just decent players in lower half of the table sides.

Maybe Rooney & Young and Valencia are the exceptions to that rule

I did say the list wasn't exhaustive

Also Rooney had arguably just established himself as a top player and IIRC Villa had had a good season and finished quite high up the table the year they signed Young. Valencia I'll give you that one

OK, so to sum up, we're just **** at identifying players overall.

IIRC under Rafa, a signing from the PL was an exception, Hodgson and Kenny went British mainly like Rodgers.

            Allen
            Borini
            Toure
            Balotelli
            Sturridge
            Lallana
            Lambert
            Lovren

            Can
            Coutinho
            Markovic
            Moreno
            Manquillo
            Sakho

More needed to be added. The non PL bunch need these names added to it

            Aspas
            Alberto
            Sahin (loan)
            Cissokho (loan)
            Origi
            Ilori
            Assaidi

The PL experienced and/or British list needs these names.

            Mignolet
            Moses (Loan)

I added that it was my feeling only, I guess I felt wrong(ish) still believe this is a higher ratio than under the continental managers. Highlighted the ones I believe are good or OK, we need to up our game really.

It doesn't matter what league they're signed from. There is good and bad in every league. And acclimatising to the size of club LFC is seems to take as much time to settle in to as the league does for some players.
                Forwards.......

I think it does. You can get good players from the continent for the price of a bad player from the PL, and you can get a top class player from the continent for the price of a good player from the PL.

But they generally want big wages which can balance the cost out. But I wasn't bringing price into the equation. If there is a better player in Germany at half the cost than one in the Prem, then of course we should sign them.

But you can't look at the price of a player too much. Their value is offset by a number of things. I don't care about the cost so much, all I care is that they do the job they were signed for. Balotelli & Lovren were signed as first teamers, so they're massive failures regardless of price. Lallana also came as a first teamer, and he's done okay.

Markovic I would say hasn't hit the heights we'd expect, but he didn't come as someone expected to set the league alight in his first year, so jury still out. Moreno came in as first choice LB and he's made the spot his own. He hasn't been great, but he's come in and done enough. He may have had a tougher job had Flanagan been fit.

I think players from the continent are also generally on lower wages when they come to the PL. Not so much after getting their move within the PL. But price also dictates how many players or how experienced/good you can get so IMO it matters, also helps when we offload them after they've flopped, big money players flopping damages the books regarding the FFP.
