personally i dont think it does.

the back four is ok, but its in midfield where it falls apart as we dont have 2 midfield players who can do everything - we only have one in henderson. neither lucas, allen nor Can can play that second midfield role with henderson. Even milner cant do all round duties.

all our midfield options are better in a 3 rather than a 2. Allen cant handle the physical stuff, lucas cant run, Can is too ponderous so for me it doesnt work.

we have to play a midfield 3 unless we buy in someone else who can. Personally, i would play 433 with a holding mid, henderson and milner as the advanced midfield players. Coutinho can play wide of the front 3, and can cut inside leaving the whole of the left hand side for moreno to run into. But coutinho needs a bit of freedom and plenty of runners which he will have in henderson, milner, moreno, sturridge and one wide right player.

In front of coutinho you have sturridge and wide right someone with pace, penetration, assists and goals - we dont have that player at the moment but maybe ibe, or if markovic gets himself together could do it.

but this guy playing wide right has to score 20 goals - this is why PE aubameyang is interesting because when sturridge is injured he can lead the line and when sturridge is fit he can play wide right.

If Benitez (1 Champions League, 1 Super Cup and 1 FA Cup with us) is below average

          What does that make Rodgers???

I think our current midfield is average at best. We really need a Pogba or Mascherano type player - it would provide decent cover in front of the back four and help bring out the best in the other (average) midfield players.

Every area on and off the pitch is average, at best.

allen doesnt look like a midfield player, lucas best days are behind him. that leaves henderson and Can as the only guys we can rely on but its not enough. We need someone like a schniederlin knit everything together and allow the attacking players more security. If we lose the ball in attack, it shouldnt lead to panic stations.

pogba is way out of our price range so we need to be realistic about our targets, but in an ideal world who wouldnt want him.

One **** season doesn't make a bad manager.
While the two are obviously very similar in terms of numbers there are significant differences in what was happening off the field. For the Benitez one H&G were screwing the club, IIRC we had a net spend of ~ zero the summer in the middle of that -having just lost Xabi and replaced him with Aquilani Last summer we had a net spend of about £30m.

I don't know whether I am pro or anti Rodgers to be honest. I guess I probably want to keep him simply because I don't think constantly changing managers after a bad season and moving to another 3/4/5 year plan will get us anywhere. It seems like we have been a 'club in transition' or about to have a 'make or break season' for the best part of the last 10 years (you could probably argue 20+)

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Benitez wasnt backed at all for the previous two years, Brendan has been backed for the alst two years. Big difference.
                            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I generally agree with all that (I don't mind Allen - think I'm in the minority ).

Lucas can't be relied on (injuries), Allen and Henderson are average and Can is developing (he looked knackered in the last third of the season). It's a major weakness of our team and we need better. As for targets - you are right re: being realistic but... I'd offer £50m for Pogba, give him £200k a week and make him captain (on the basis that if we don't make CL in the next two seasons he can go for an agreed fee of £40m). Championship Manager
