The only player in the team who might feel he needs to move on to further his career is Suarez, and I don't think it'll be the end of the world if he does.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostThat's assuming we're able to keep hold of our talented players. Keep hanging around mid-table or worse and they'll be ****ing off.

Next summer IMO. Unless, we have one helluva transfer window next Summer, which is unlikely.

I'm not sure it's the disaster that everyone thinks either. So long as we sell £30m+ then we'll be able to strengthen other areas. We're saving a load in the transfer market with the likes of Sterling, Wisdom, Suso and Shelvey coming through and the manager isn't the sort who feels the need to spend a fortune on the right sort of player. I'm really confident that if Rodgers keeps a firm involvement on the development of youth at the club then we're going to be a football factory within 5 years.Originally posted by Captain Stu View PostSuarez will be gone within the next 3 years.

My only concern with Rodgers is that he doesn't start to make decisions for the sake of it.
Bringing Suso on smacks of 'look at me, I'm giving a kid a debut at 18 against Man U when we only have 10 men'
95% of fans would have predicted Ferguson bringing Scholes on at HT or early 2nd half to control the game as we had 10 men.
Scholes was always going to have an impact, it's all he can do these days, sit deep and keep the ball (and he's brilliant at it)
Rodgers threw on Suso at HT then had to make another panic sub on 60 odd minutes with Man U over running us in midfield.
Rodgers had no choice but to take off Sterling who was our best chance of nicking a goal on the break as Utd attacked more.
In hindsight the sensible substitution was Henderson for Borini at HT going to 4-3-1-1 with Sterling off Suarez.
Something else worth thinking about is Rodgers got the managers job at the end of May I think, we signed Sahin at the end of August.
If Rodgers loves Suso so much why did he sign a technical, left footed playmaker after watching Suso in training and games for 3 months.
To be clear I'm a big fan of Rodgers and I think Suso will be a very good player but bizzare decisions have been glossed over because of the sending off and penalty decision. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Why would he be worried about his stock value? He gets paid regardless, and there's no way his international place is at risk. The reason he'd leave is if we continue not to challenge for honours.Originally posted by Captain Stu View PostPotentially, if I had to stick a pin in it - I'd say 2014 as I do think he likes the club, the city and his team-mates but won't wait forever and risk his stock going through the floor.

It could make it look like he's happy to play at a lower level while players of his ability are supposed to complain about not being in the Champion's League. Personally I think his dedication so far has been admirable.Originally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostWhy would he be worried about his stock value? Henderson last season was pretty much anonymous. I think its great he is giving Suso a chance. We were crying out for that with Kenny last year when the other lads were showing they weren't up to the task and now we have it.

I wondered the same myself but came to the conclusion that he was protecting Sterling once the leg breaker came on and that it was inspiredOriginally posted by The Birdman View PostMy only concern with Rodgers is that he doesn't start to make decisions for the sake of it.

I was as frustrated as everyone else after yesterday. But when you look back at it, we can take an awful lot of heart from that game. As Tomkins said, we absolutely battered Utd when it was 11 v 11. You can see the direction we're moving in. Despite the results, it feels as though we're building towards something.
I think it's going to take 2-3 transfer windows for Rodgers to properly put his stamp on this team. It's also going to take time for our current players to really get used to this system. We're losing game by the finest of margins. It will come - I'm totally confident about that, and until it does I'm going to stay patient.
Also, how great is it to see so many talented youngsters emerging. Shelvey, Sterling and Suso clearly all have the ability to make it at the club. Yesil looks a fantastic prospect. Wisdom, Coates, Kelly and Robinson could also make the step up. Finally all the hard work that Rafa put in, along with Borell and Segura, is starting to bear fruit.
Regarding Suarez. I absolutely love the bloke - utter class and I will defend him to the hilt against fickle naysayers. But he's just signed a new contract. Even if we were to lose him over the next couple of years we'd get a good price for him. It wouldn't be the end of the world.
For the first time in about 3 years, it feels as though we're moving forwards again

He was given a much improved contract recently and the club stood like a rock next to him throughout the evra situation. I wouldn't call it dedication to be honest, he'd play the same way where ever he played. It's in his make-up.Originally posted by Captain Stu View PostIt could make it look like he's happy to play at a lower level while players of his ability are supposed to complain about not being in the Champion's League. How many people scoffed at spending £15M on him - he's small, he's Welsh, he's barely played in the Premier League - but **** me, the wee man is brilliant. He's absolutely brilliant.

IF this club doesn't grow towards being back at the top then imo it won't just be Suarez that leaves in 3 years, the likes of Sterling will be taken by City or Chavski or whoever too, it's how football works, and we won't be able to stop it happening.Originally posted by cream View PostI do think Suarez will go and I'm not worried about that, but the other players I mentioned will be here for a few years yet, they will grow as the club grows.
All these players will hear from now till then if they perform well, is how they should be playing for a top side, a side that plays champions league football and challenges for the title season in season out, they won't be able to stop themselves wanting to play for those teams imo, especially if we aren't one of them, or look like we soon will be.
Hopefully it wont come to that, but for it not to, we need to be winners.Last edited by Vermilion; 24-09-12, 10:57 AM.

Last season Henderson was poor when played on the right. This season he has done well in different roles against Hearts and played well (especially in the 2nd half) vs Young Boys in centre midfield.Originally posted by clanhuman View PostHenderson last season was pretty much anonymous. In the cold light of day a 2nd half with only 10 men playing against Man U and a front 5 of Allen, Gerrard, Sterling, Suso and Suarez is suicidal.
When Rodgers realised that and had to bring Henderson on who were his options to remove? not Gerrard, Allen or Suarez. Suso had just come on 15 minutes earlier so Raheem Sterling it was.
Sterling also happens to be our best attacking threat, even more so with a side attacking so he has space to run into, he was also occupying Evra so he didn't attack and was causing him problems defensively.
In short Rodgers had to take off our best attacking player who was also stopping Evra from attacking to correct his own mistake of bringing Suso on at half time. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
