So you think Garry Monk is a definite no-go then?!?!?Originally posted by vonk View PostHe had the best squad we've had since the 80's. Did he win the league with it? I loved Rafa but some of the revisionist history that goes on here.
Rafa didn't have City to compete with so basically it was us or Spurs in the CL every season. If you are saying Suarez was the reason Rodgers came so close last season then there is a big SG sized shadow in the Rafa trophy cabinet too. It always amuses me that the most vocal about getting rid of any of our managers are always those who never got over Rafa. You just have to wait around long enough. Ancellotti is a ridiculous suggestion too. When has he worked under a limited budget? If we are getting rid of Rodgers, then it's Klopp. There is no-one else.
I had a dream (nightmare) that Sam Allardyce got the LFC job.......and brought back Andy Carroll with him!!!

Disagree with you 100% there....... he is the most likely to be a somewhat success in the next 2 or 3 years but he had a terrible season.Originally posted by dww View PostThe thing is that it wasn't necessarily (just) the FSG part of the model that failed was it? Balotelli, Lallana and Lovren all had PL experience and only Lallana came out of the season with any credit.
I think the balance of experience and youth in last summers signings was fine. The issues lay elsewhere.
For me this seems like the media looking for a story (albeit we are giving them fertile ground to ferret around in).
All of the stories seem to suggest that Rodgers has contingent support from FSG. Which seems fair. I fully expect him to survive and some coaching/committee changes to be announced.
In reality, from FSG's point of view, we will lose maybe 10m on Balotelli's transfer fee (maybe even more) - but with Lallana and Lovren I reckon we would lose about £17m and £15m respectively if we sold them both right now. Also, at 27 years old then he has about 2 seasons before his value starts to head down anyway.....
Everyone is shouting for 2 new strikers to join the club. Well Lallana is the player that will make way for one of them, and will be relegated to the bench.

Yeah it may very well become a good buy but as it stands this season for Lallana has been a big failure. I like him as a player, but it was such an unnecessary buy from the point of view of what we needed.Originally posted by frank the tank View PostDisagree with you 100% there....... he is the most likely to be a somewhat success in the next 2 or 3 years but he had a terrible season.

We need to have some sort of strategy beyond one year, for example we shouldn't buy a team full of 35 year olds with one year in them. But I agree on the whole we should be looking for players that will improve the team now. If they are young and will get better as well then great, but the spending fairly sizable amounts of money on players in the hope that they will develop doesn't seem to be working, look at the young players we have signed in the last 3 years:Originally posted by Chilts33 View PostSurely we just need to start buying players for that season, maybe the next season at a push? We keep buying for tomorrow when it never actually arrives. I'm in my forties and am beginning to believe we'll never win the league again in my lifetime.
2014-15
Can - £10m - worked out
Markovic - £20m - hasn't worked out
Origi - £10m - hasn't arrived yet
2013-14
Alberto - £7m - hasn't worked out
Ilori - £7m - hasn't played yet
2012-13
Borini - £10.5m - hasn't worked out
Sturridge - £12m - worked out
Coutinho - £8m - worked out
In this time we have spent £30m on 3 players who have improved the side from the first season, £45m on 4 players who haven't improved the side (yet) and £10m on 1 player who hasn't arrived yet. While I feel Markovic may improve I don't see enough in him that he would be good enough to make us a profit any time soon. If they weren't good enough for us but we bought them becaue we thought we could turn a profit on them that would be one thing, but we're blowing huge chunks of our budget on players that aren't good enough and will just result in a loss. We may as well put that money towards a top player. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It's the same rumblings we all heard before they sacked Kenny. We all know how ruthless FSG are and the money spent last summer was a complete mess and someone needs to be held accountable for that. From a on field perspective the season has been a complete disaster. Our CL campaign was a shambles and quite frankly utterly shameful and shouldn't have been what was expected from the 5 times European Champions.
The money wasted by Rodgers is alarming with only Can, Sturridge and Coutinho being the successes.
His tactics have been found wanting and left us toothless, clueless and exposed to any team that presses us.
Last year was amazing, however we had the best striker in world football in our team whom dragged the team along with Sturridge providing more fire power.
Three years is a long time in football and Rodgers has had enough time to implement his ideas, sign players suited to his system and it has not worked out. We are still hopeless in defence despite spending tens of millions of pounds on defenders.

For me, Brendan's biggest problem is that no matter how amazing last seasons football was (and it was the most fun any of us have had in the last 25 years of watching lfc) what he has proved is that he can't be trusted with transfer funds. He has simply got it horribly wrong. For every Coutinho there are 5 or 6 balotellis, lamberts, borinis etc.....Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostIt's the same rumblings we all heard before they sacked Kenny. Despite the club spending transfer funds last season - and in reality the 116m was actually about 35m when you consider sales - they are in a position to do so again. With Gerrard, Johnson, Toure and hopefully Enrique, balotelli, lambert, Borini all focking off, and maybe something like 50m for the sale of sterling coming in, then the club have a nice kitty to spunk on 3 to 5 good quality signings again. They probably have 100m again plus loads of freed up space on the wage bill.
The question they have to ask themselves is "do we trust Brendan to spend our money"..... And if the answer is "no" then how is he going to last to June the 1st???
When you consider that a new manager will possibly be able to attract new talent with him, then that is music to their ears. Especially if Brendan drops the words "Charlie Austin, Ashley Williams or Danny ings" into any conversation.
I think the only way Brendan keeps his job is if the owners decide that they will keep their powder dry this summer - maybe pick up a few free transfers and spend what they earn in sales - and give him the first half of next season to prove that this season was just a annus horribilus..... And if Brendan can talk them round that he is the man to get vast improvement out of Markovic, Ibe Emre can, Moreno - as well as introduce the likes of Harry Wilson, ojo etc - then you never know.
But if they have Klopps agent on the phone promising to tap the best young talent in Germany and surrounding countries (Poland / turkey) then it might be enough to give john W a non-Linda induced boner....
