I'm not saying he needs to win the league, but he needs to win something. And no they haven't spent 5 billion more. But regardless, it's enough money to have a least won a league cup. Jeez, most clubs could only dream of spending more than 270m over 4 years. Once you're dealing with numbers like that I don't think net spend is that relevant because it should be enough money to buy a very good team. This season we need to be a very good team.

How much have Tottenham spent in that period??Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostWow dramatic statement alert. Context anywhere? What have we sold in the same time? What have our rivals spent? If we spend a billion do you expect results? What if everyone else spent 5 billion?
Don't get me wrong it's lots of money but that's the game, you need to spend to keep up,you need to spend even more to get ahead and then more to stay there!Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Jeez chaps you are all so wrong.
What the Brendog wins in silverware is irrelevant, what he produces is.
CL is good for sponsorship and exposure to markets so a major bonus.
If there is no CL, no drama, if his famed coaching skills can develop a player enough to sell, to keep the money rolling in.
Success in FSG's eyes is club value, not trophys, we have to deal with it.
Brendogs job is entirely dependent on his ability to produce assets on a regular basis, ready to be sold. Sterling, Ibe, Coutinho will keep him in a job, position in the league doesn't matter one iota. Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

As much as you like to paint them out to be solely money grabbers FSG like to win, they've shown as much in the past. Not only with us, with the red sox as well. The times they are a changin'.

I hear you Gibbo, want to believe you too, but they didn't get rich by supporting football.Originally posted by Gibbo View PostIf we have a similar season to last he will go absolutely no doubt.

It's all about the money and the main reason we are not now in Stanley Park, long term debt means less profit when they sell. Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.

You know what really lifts a clubs value? what really gives it a bigger fan base and makes it more marketable?
Winning things.
A fan from Asia or America or Australia more often than not has no more connection to liverpool as a place than they do Brighton or Newcastle. They follow teams purely based on their percieved success.
I just came back from Thailand. Manchester City shirts are everywhere there now, they obviously wouldn't of been 6 or 7 years ago.
Selling star players is not done so they can have more profit, its only done when the star wants to leave and there isn't really any other choice.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

It's win win for them really considering how much they got the club for.
Not to say they don't want to win things, but it's not a prerequesite for making a good profit on their return.
Having said that, imo they have gone all out to win things since being here, they've not skimped on player budgets.

They haven't? They have paid transfer fees but the wages we pay is well off what the top clubs are paying. We currently have a squad with no big name players for probably the first time in my lifetime. We have also offset the transfer fees paid by cashing in our top players, although in fairness those players have all wanted out.Originally posted by Vermilion View Post:

The budget for wages means we can't buy ready made stars. Stars win prizes. We are doing enough to cement top 6 and nothing more.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Completely agree. I'm sure I said something very similar in another post recently.
I can't remember us ever having such a weak squad, on paper, in my lifetime. Not one single A list player in the squad.
