Rodgers got it badly wrong yesterday and hes got it badly wrong with his summer signings but that doesnt mean I want him sacked

However he has to change because if he doesnt he will struggle to be here to finish off his grand vision
I really don't think he did (this time).

I didn't see much wrong about his selection yesterday.

He had to rest some and had to give some young players chances to play and we had some injuries too but his team was strong enough on the paper to win easily against League 1 opponent.

In the league it's excellent - but in all comps it's not so clever. I think it's some sort of record for the number of times we've shipped two or more at home.

          Man City - 2
          Arsenal - 2
          Man Utd - 2
          Udinese - 3
          Swansea - 3
          Young Boys - 2
          Aston Villa - 3

          Not great that.

                You missed Arsenal out.

Look at it when we have our first team out, that is four of those game. 3 of them being City, United and Arsenal. City was two individual errors, United cheated and Arsenal was counter attacking. Villa was bad yes, but in terms of the league, it was blatantly a blip.

A for defending against physical strikers, Grant Holt posed us no threat at Anfield, Stoke had to kick us to even get a draw and didn't look like scoring themselves, Fletcher posed no threat for Sunderland.

Only City have conceded less at home than we have.

Yep - but my original point about conceding too many goals to **** teams didn't specify at home.

                  Villa 3
                  Young Boys 2
                  Udinese 3
                  Oldham 3
                  West Ham 2
                  Stoke 3
                  non-league Mansfield 1
                  Norwich 2
                  West Brom 3
                  Young Boys 3

These are mainly ****e teams. We're too easy to score against on the whole. Much too easy.

Rodgers has been pretty scathing in his press conference today apparently about yesterday. Rightly so

I think more than anything we are poor away from home. We are seeing what we expect from a transitional season quite frankly. But our home form in the league should be cause for optimism, not whitewashed over.

I believe we are the 5th or 6th best defence in the league too.

                        It's not being whitewashed over.

That list shows we're often a soft touch and too easy to score against. You only have to watch us play - lost possession often results in us being wide open and hugely susceptible to the counter, dominating teams then going behind to their first shot on target etc. Soft-centered. It's an ongoing problem and one that is yet to be solved.

5 of those games have been when we have not had a first team out though.
Then on your adjusted list, only on match with our first team was at home.

What we are mainly seeing is that we are not great away from home. As I said at home we are excellent defensively, overall bar City and Chelsea, our defensive record is pretty similar to all the teams around us.

It wasn't an adjusted list - they were different lists. One list featured only home results as you insisted on talking about the home record, the other all-inclusive - taking in the whole picture rather than a selected set of results.

We're doing better with the **** teams at home - scoring goals and keeping clean sheets.

Of the good sides we've faced - Arsenal scored 2, City 2, United 2. Good sides find it easy to score against us at Anfield. We've got Spurs, Chelsea and Everton to come at home. Everyone else we've faced at home in the league is below us in the league.

So we're dealing with the weaker sides better at home, that seems clear - Villa apart obviously. Not so much away where a number of **** teams have scored 2s and 3s.

Defensively I don't think Rodgers has got to grips with it - that seems fair comment to me. We're also pretty vulnerable at set pieces. I'd be very surprised if anyone can contrive to disagree with this.

What concerns me is how open we are in the middle which leads, as you say, to us looking vulnerable far, far too easily. Its no use dominating games if the other team are able to cause panic the few times they break.

I dont want to focus this all on Allen because it is his first season with us but its obvious he's never going to provide any presence or protection in the middle. Yet he's ended up playing in a role that requires him to do that far too often this season.

And its that that's given me some concerns about Rodgers in the long-term. Is it just injuries that's lead to this? Or is it a lack of planning? I mean, with Lucas injured, I was amazed we didnt pick up a more physical midfielder in the summer. Was it really necessary to spend the money on Allen when we already had a young player in Henderson who does the basics of neat passing and movement quite well?

Or does the manager just not believe in needing that kind of player (your Sissokos or Mascheranos) in the middle?

I just think we are much poorer away from home tbh. Bar Villa, we haven't looked like conceding at home recently.
I think using cup games where we haven't played a first team is not worthwhile comparison.

                                I agree regarding set pieces.
