G mentioned the players being given 4 days off last week - it was Jack Robinson who tweeted they'd been given Mon-Thurs off. Trained Friday. Suarez & Lucas definitely went to Istanbul to do some promo work so it wasn't just the young players.

Obviously Rodgers was in court, and clearly we don't know the ins and outs or why this happened - but on the face of it it doesn't look very good, does it?

the manager has belief in his 3 forwards system and he's going to try and show that it works.

For me it was too attacking and everytime we lost the ball we had too many men behind the play. We struggled to get the ball back from a pretty poor side which needs addressing.

I also think we need a plan b - a fallback option. Yesterday, the pitch was bobbly and although it looked ok, the ball wasnt running well enough. The way the manager wants us to play requires good quick passing which further requires a good pitch.

Sometimes, if the pitch isnt suitable for how you want to play its sensible to alter your system. but when we dont have anyone different upfront who can help us bypass the midfield at times.

gerrard came on and instantly started playing some longer passes which stretched the play in our favour.

If we'd played our strongest 11 yesterday we wouldn't have changed that many players. The most appropriate line-up given the opposition and the conditions would have been a bunch of scrappers-who-can-play-a-bit but we don't really have any of those since we sent Jay on loan.

Said as much last night mate. Taking 4 days off before a game is not good at all. Regardless if Rodgers is there or not we have a more than capable coaching staff and assistant manager who could continue the training sessions in rodgers absence. I also wasn't impressed seeing Gerrard bugger off to london too pick up some press award but maybe thats just me being a bit too critical?

I hope this isn't normal practice under rodgers?

You'd think Pascoe and Co would have taken training. I find 4 days off a bit excessive and hard to believe. Would be annoying if true as that shouldn't be the way. If Robinson tweeted it, has someone on here seen it?

Before we all have a go, don't we need to know whether this is a one-off or something more regular. And do other teams do the same thing?

Even if its only a one-off, if you were going to schedule some downtime for the team, between a cup game to lower league opposition and a home game against a recently promoted team would be ideal surely.

See you could dsay that Only robinson or a few of the squad had the 4 days but the fact is he was in the starting 11 yesterday so i take that as the whole squad had the time off and not just the young lads.

I believe the whole Man Utd squad went to Dubai or somewhere, but that was to train in the heat apparently. They didn't get the time off as our lads did.

Promotional stuff is part of it nowadays though. But they all looked off the pace yesterday. If they missed 4 days of training that's bad regardless of how anyone dresses it up. It's a bad habit to get players into

We have conceded an alarming amount of goals against really **** teams. My biggest worry about Rodgers is his ability to set a team up defensively.

Our defensive record at home is excellent though, second best in the league.
