souness had a track record, as did houllier, as did rafa ... though they - bar the first one - brought some success and joy they didn't win us the leauge and they didn't build a team that dominated for years or was at least thereabouts for years (now the rafa apologists will jump in again with their tiresome old arguements). winning trophies somewhere else really means nothing unless you know all the exact details of how that success was achieved... so many managers have enjoyed success somewhere and were unable to replicate it somewhere else ...

Our squad is much better than our league position shows but I'd put them both on the same level even though AVB has won something in Portugal - it's a **** league with only three teams in it. It still takes something to go unbeaten in the way they did but I'm not having him either held up as a messiah or reduced to being some sort of gob****e. He's a good promising young manager.
