But why the difference between Southampton and Villa? I can't believe it's mainly down to physical condition, the players had a week off but Villa's didn't. Ok, that's not everything but it's not nothing either. So while tiredness, and perhaps individual personal circumstances like Allen's, may be part of it, it's also a very convenient excuse.

It makes more sense to me that Lambert did something tactical to Villa that Atkins failed to do. I have no idea what it might be as you need a lot more knowledge of football than I (and I suggest the vast majority of us too) have and you certainly need to be at the game to see it properly as well.

My underlying concern is that Rodgers doesn't seem to be particularly adept at making tactical changes mid-game but then again no manager can win every tactical battle.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I didn't realise that Villa are in a bit of form they have lost twice in the last 11 games and that was to City and United.

      Got some decent youngsters.

he is just far too insistent that his team will play a certain way, without allowing for the players we have available. he just doesnt seem to be playing to our strengths.

iit is clear to everyone that for all the passing we are not productive in terms of goals scored, too many goals conceded from counter attacks or individual errors due to poor positioning and overall a poor points return, yet he continues to plough on regardless.

look at stoke. for example. look at what tony pulis does. he knows he doesnt have the luxury of messi or rvp to pull them out of the ****. he has big strong players, and they play to their strengths, they are not just long ball hoof merchants any more.
i am not saying we should aspire to be the new stoke, but at least we can see how being pragmatic and realising that you have to make the best of what you have allows the team to function as a unit more effectively.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I was reading an old LFC book the other day and it had a quote from Joe Fagan that is very apt in regards to how I view the current side under Brendan

We are hungry for possession, we are not hungry for it just so we can hold on to the ball. We only want it because you can't score without it
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

            Thats another fantastic quote.

it's pretty clear that he was hired because of his philosophy, not because of his pragmatism, so i'm not sure why we should expect something different. i very much doubt the owners are. i imagine they want the system, and they will do what they can to bring in players to match over time.

i wonder if brendans interview and presentation of his plan was like a greasy used car salesman upselling a rust bucket to a young bimbo with no knowledge of how things work, just so long as its the right colour to match her shoes.

I do wonder if the Philosophy of Tiki Taka would have gained so much prominence without Xavi, Iniesta and Messi...And Messi is not even a Tiki Taka type of footballer. He gets the ball and does what he wants, when he wants. Spain play 'nice' football, Barca play 'exciting' football, becuase of Messi.

dont get me wrong, i would love him [or anyone] to bring success and consistency back to our club...
i worry that he has no one that we know of with an in depth knowledge of football [soccer] and whats going on generally.
the owners could have been spun a great sales pitch, all high fiving each other, a-whoopin' and a-hollerin' like a gang of cattle ranch hands with a 48 hour pass out...

i think you have badly mischaracterized our staid, city slicker owners.
