I never know how we're going to play, there is absolutely no consistency. We go from a 4-0 win to being out fought and out thought by Stoke - ok their home form is decent, but a couple of years ago we would have found a way and not looked so insipid.

We're 6 months in, and I don't think the botched transfer window can be used as a free pass for Brendan to avoid criticism. If we think that not buying Clint Dempsey or another striker is the reason we're in trouble, then we as a fan base are being hugely deluded.

There have been some strange and plain bad team line-up decisions, and I don't see how Brendan can get off scot free for the last transfer window **** up - he was directly involved after all.

I think we need to rotate more but the problem is the squad depth so its difficult to maintain a high level by rotating. I just don't see why we aren't making use of the signings that were supposed to give us that depth. Sahin and Assaidi are a non-entity at the moment.

That to me is a fundamental we are frequently failing at

What I dont get is that on the odd occasion I have heard Brendan talk about tactics etc.. hes impressed me with his knowledge and ability to describe what should have happened or should be being done in any given situation

Yet that knowledge doesnt in any way seem to be translating from inside his mind to the players out there on the pitch
Amd it's it's not purely because we have the wrong type of full internationals in our first team.

          next batch of prem games:
          QPR A
          Sunderland H
          Man Utd A
          Norwich H
          Arsenal A
          Man City A
The depressing thing is it's not the Man Utd, Arsenal or Man City games I'm that bothered about, the rest of those games are easily losable as well. As the Villa and Stoke games showed, we really should have taken points from those two but didn't

Stoke are not a great footballing side. But they excel at what they do.

A great side can play football when teams park the bus and battle when teams launch themselves into them.

LFC are slowly getting to the stage where they can beat teams who sit back. But when teams go to war with us we fall apart.

The thing is I dont see Brendan buying another midfielder who will shut up shop as that would be an admission that Allen isnt good enough

I think we will just sign attacking players this window and that will only partially resolve our issues

We should have beat Villa but we allowed them into a game they had no right to be in. Against Stoke we should have shut up shop for ten minutes after we went a goal up and played on the counter. Oh well.

We had that DM before he got injured. He made our team look much better than what they are. If he can get back to what he was he'd save us £15-£20m.

It's a nice cliche ridden explanation, but things like passing accurately and defending the post at a corner are not primarily related to the attitude of the opposition. We miss placed so many straightforward passes it was ludicrous. We lost our shape as soon as they beat the first wide man, we didn't track a runner at a corner. The fact that these things happened during wartime is neither here not there.

One thing I will say is that games like last nights seperate the men from teh boys. And if there was ever any inkling of confidence brewing again for Downing and Henderson, well it was well and truly blown away by their performances. We need to bring in players who can battle on the pitch when things are not going well, and also play as well, just like Luis, Lucas, Skrtel and even Enrique.

there's nothing remotely appealing to a big name player to want to join lfc

As a team they are not performing the role correctly. As individuals, Lucas is still not up to speed, Allen is shattered and Sterling is hit & miss. Enrique also hit & miss. But if we brought in a strong ball winner to provide competition for Lucas and another top attacking player in addition to Sturridge, I'd be much more confident.

That said, once Lucas & Allen get back up to speed and if Ince & Sturridge settle well, most of our minor issues are solved.
I'm glad I got this response, cheers Danny. Each of the players on that list are rated highly on here. Bar none all have their own threads where they are mentioned as being one of the best in their position, or in Sterling's case a future great. I'm sure that we've fielded that side (except Sturridge of course) and it's not performed.

What makes anyone think that by changing the personnel that things will improve? I think it has more to do with how other teams approach us. At newly promoted Swansea BR had the pleasure of being an unknown quantity and each team that visited them thought that they could turn them over. Opponents played lip service to them, perhaps condescendingly, but Swansea kept punching above their weight and got a number of surprise results. At Liverpool it's totally different. Teams sit deeper and wait to counter, they have nothing to lose from going for a draw knowing they can snatch it on the break. We play so slowly now that only our full backs appear to get up to the pace of the game

We should not be playing the way we are being asked to play, it's not going to work. Teams will continue to allow us possession all around the pitch except the final third and will then swamp the field knowing that all our players do not possess the ability to beat their man, barring Suarez who inevitably tries to take on one too many and gets forced wide. When we attack we have absolutely no space in which to work, and our attack is suffocated. I don't know what the answer is but playing an uber patient build-up only benefits our opponents by allowing them time to re-organise. Somehow we need to encourage our opponents to attack more, and for us to have a more direct approach but this only ever seems to be the case against the two teams who attack us (Utd and Chelsea). Teams set themselves up against Utd in the same way but they move the ball far more quickly and purposefully than we do, with better personnel.

And that would be my issue with him in a nutshell. It's patently obvious what the issue is yet no one is confident that he would look to address it.

I see things in what we do and feel hugely positive about the direction he's taking us in but the you have a Villa or last night and its not really obvious what he's trying to do or if he's actually made any inroads in achieving it.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.
