I am struggling, not with his style of play or tactics tbh. Just his lack of proper quality signings, or ambitions even to sign those kind of players. That is what could ultimately cost him IMO. We need better players, it really is that simple IMO."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I have confidence in him to get us to the top 4 if he is given enough time. 1 and a half years minimum. I'd say 3-4 years (depending on progress) maximum.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostIs there anyone here who has confidence in Rodgers to restore us - ultimately - to the top 4 and CL? If so, why?

To be fair to Rodgers he has made some very good tactical decisions and some equally bad ones but I think overall he has improved the team. We are a better team than we were last season in my opinion, apart from the odd game of course.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostWhy though? Why the confidence? I'm not being pissy - just interested. I've seen very little - if anything - to suggest he's up to the job. I know it's still early, he just hasn't given me any encouraging signs.

tbh were exactly the same in terms of style of play chances missed and defeats against lesser teams and no consistency

Arguably much unluckier in games last season."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

As a club we have been through a hell of a lot in the past few years; such a rollercoaster of emotions on and off the pitch. It just has felt to me, ever since Roy took over and FSG came in that there has been a general malaise at the club that just has not been shaken off. This has not been helped by things like Torres leaving, the stadium issue, Lucas getting that injury and Kenny wasting that Kings ransom on ****e. To me it feels like we just need a £30m player to come in and shake the place up."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

First off, I would have hired Rafa last summer. He was the only top manager who would have come to us. As he wasn't an option, we were scraping the barrel. Same as we would be in the summer if we let Rodgers go.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostIs there anyone here who has confidence in Rodgers to restore us - ultimately - to the top 4 and CL? But if there is no top managers, where do you go? You have to stick or twist. We gambled on Rodgers. Spurs would have took him had we not, we weren't the only ones gambling in the summer.
Back to your question. Is he worth sticking with and can he take us where we want?
I think there is no question, that with the right set of players his system will work. It is one that when done correctly, makes average players seem better than they are. As Rodgers has said all a long, and no one should be under any illusions to think otherwise - in the learning stages there will be massive lows.
The toughest pill to swallow is not knowing how long it will take before he has a team of players who know the system. Obviously, the more players he brings in, the better we will get over time.
But it is so hard watching. If the players don't press together, it leaves massive gaps. I think Rodgers was foolish to ask his team to do so straight off. He should have organised a set block defence of lines ala Houllier and then built on that.
Rodgers main problem and inability is that he tries too much too soon. He did it at Reading and should have learned. At Swansea they were already a patient, passing side. So it was just about asking them to press in The right areas.
At LFC, we were a passing side, but we were more counter attacking than patient pass & move. So his methods are a total alien concept both offensively and defensively.
Obviously, doing it all at once will be great when it all clicks. But it will be difficult until then, and though we are getting there, I think the past week or so has shown we still have some distance to go.
But Rodgers is confident enough, is a good enough coach and employs a system that will be pleasing to watch as well as suit a top team perfectly when acted out in the correct manner.
So he will get us there if given enough time. I'd worry if this time next year we were still 8 points of the top 4.
And whilst I don't see us finishing top 4 this year, simply because too many teams are ahead of us, I think we will finish closer than 8 points. Which would mean we would have improved in the second half of the season.Forwards.......

8 points off fourth, but with our run of games coming up it is the other way I am looking. That 10 point gap to the relegation zone could very eaily be just a few points by the end of January if we don't get our act together."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball."
