Because Rodgers likes the sound of his own voice.

It could be a number of things, but again, I would guess that Rodgers would like Sneijder; to assist with his pitch to FSG, Rodgers then sanctions a Gerrard interview to go into the public domain, were Gerrard talks about an experienced head.

All to put a little pressure on FSG.

Rodgers will have taken on the role with a clear understanding of how FSG will act in the transfer market.

I mean, I'm only guessing at the situation, but Rodgers will have identified through the course of this season so far, that we lack a calm head or an experienced player, who at 2-0 down will not revert to playing with their heart, but continue to follow instruction.

It is then on Rodgers to identify that player and discuss the cash side of things with FSG. It will have to be something that doesn't disrupt the balance of our wage budget or that doesn't unsettle the current squad and then FSG will make a business decision.

I see nothing wrong with Rodgers asking to go rogue on our transfer policy every now and then, nor do I see anything wrong with FSG making an informed decision based on the facts put to them.

It's a grown up conversation between manager and owner, nothing more.
Why do it through the press ?

I doubt very much it's a wise decision to use the media to apply pressure on fsg, so what is it he's saying...let us by an experienced player or the fans will be up in arms ?

A much better way would be for BR and his captain to meet fsg, and tell them why the side needs this player.

        Dirty laundry.

          Dunno.

I don't enjoy it being played out in the media, but it seems to be the way of the world at the moment. Maybe it's to get the fans onboard?

I can imagine it's easier to say 'no' to Rodgers and Gerrard, than to Rodgers, Gerrard and millions of others wanting to know why it wasn't sanctioned.

from past experience (andy carroll / dempsey saga), i dont think fsg respond well to being put under pressure.

No coincidence that suarez and gerrard have come out and supported the manager because they dont want to wait 3 years before the kids get ready. They want to win now.

Sneijder is nearly 29 i think so maybe its not going to happen but he's still got 2/3 years left in him. Moody little ******* though.

If anything, I hope FSG learnt from the Dempsey situation.

I didn't want him and as such, I'm glad we didn't get him, but from the FSG chat that followed from that saga, I think I remember FSG saying that internal processes will be improved to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Maybe we're just leaning on FSG to speed things up? As I've said throughout, I'm just guesing. I can see the risk involved in the potential Sneijder transfer and why FSG would take their time thinking it through.

there's plenty of risk in signing a player of that age. however, there's equally plenty of risk in signing a player at any age imo.

no guarantees of player being successful. look at michael johnson - he was a talent and at 24 he's washed up, finished. mental health issues.

age is no indicator of performance.

As I said in the post-match thread, apart from almost superficial aesthetic improvements, we're now starting to make proper, tangible improvement. Sturridge is making a big difference. If we can add a Coutinho/Sneijder then we'll be really strong. Well done Brendan.

Hopefully Chelsea beat Arsenal tomorrow and we can stay level with the Gooners.

Our goal difference is now only 4 worse than Arsenal's too. We could go above them if we beat them
