It's just an example of the new cringey football jargon. No better than business jargon. And it's not just Rodgers who's all of a sudden started calling a squad "the group", everyone's at it.

Huge difference is that was a one-off remark (assuming you mean Rafa's quote about his DoF buying him a table when he needed a lamp, or whatever it was), a quirky one-off remark. Not some hideous jargon that everyone cottons on to and trots out in every cliche ridden interview.
It's a minor gripe but just like bull**** business jargon, this new modern footy talk makes me wince.
