When i watch our current midfield (Gerrard apart) i just can't see them scoring, in fact i have more faith in Johnson hitting the back of the net then of them.
Sissoko got one goal ever for us, Mascherano got two and a whole three in his career.

I think the departure of Sahin, in part, is a result of Rodgers’ realisation that Gerrard is now more effective playing deep and is no longer considered a ‘forward’ (this marks a change from what was suggested in ‘Being Liverpool’). The drawback of playing Gerrard in a midfield three, however, is that he doesn’t have the legs to implement Rodgers’ pressing game and has hence been supplemented with two high energy central midfielders. Assuming Gerrard is going to stay in the midfield three alongside one of Hednerson/Allen/Lucas, we are going to need a Number 10 that doesn’t shirk the defensive side of the game, works hard and can press – as well as being a devastating attacking force.

So my question is, firstly, do people think this is how BR is likely to construct a team? And, if so, who could realistically fulfil such a role? Suarez undoubtedly has the energy, but I fear moving him back could nullify his goal threat. Eriksen at Ajax has been mentioned but I haven’t seen much of him so don’t know if he possesses these attributes. Who else is out there?
i think when it comes to brendan and set formations go out of the window. he's used suarez as a false 9 and suso as a 7 and a half.

in the traditional 433 there isnt a creative no.10 as such, more of a late runner into the box to get goals ie lampard or sigurdsson. If you take the other formations such as 4411 or 4231 then you can see that a creative no.10 fits in well.

Maybe its a new system or a hybrid of 433 and 4231 which allows the no.10 role.

But what of the inverted wingers around the inverted triangle? Can a ten and three quarters operate with a seven and a half?

But I digress, we all know Rodgers plays a 1-2-3-1-1-2-1 formation.

          It's a nice theory but I don't think it's that simple.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Alonso scored 19 goals in 5 seasons

Alonso did and probably still would outscore Allen, Lucas & Henderson though
What's Alonso's scoring record for Real?

For Spain it's something like 4 goals in 100 odd games.
            Oh I don't know.

Er, have we yet reached the point where analysis of a former Liverpool player should make me feel embarrassed to be on the forum?

I thought we pased that point years ago.

It was in response to Lecter's assertion that Alonso would probably score more goals that our current midfield, which in itself was a topic for reminiscance in this thread.

                    Worse than suicide. It's embarrassing.

                      totally true.

                      thats the way forward.

**** it lets field 12 players and see who notices.

Is it me or does our transfer system seem similar to under Kenny and Commoli?

                        Allen - Welsh
                        Sturridge - English
Borini - Not British but spent most of his playing life here, like Enrique.
                        Possibly Ince - English

The two "foreign" signings that we have brought in apparently aren't his, one was sent back and the other cant get a game.

                          Rodgers: No new signings planned
                          17 January 2013

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says no more major signings are in the pipeline, insisting that Daniel Sturridge was their main target.

Goal.com exclusively revealed that the club are investigating the possibility of bringing Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder to Anfield and are attempting to put together a financial package to sign the 28-year-old.

However, Rodgers says that he is not confident at this stage of the club pulling off the deal, telling reporters: "I can't see it happening.

"You could probably rattle off about 20 names and the answer would be the same. The club have been linked with a whole host of players but I couldn't see that happening.

"We'll see what happens over the next few weeks. Daniel was our main priority and we'll have to see what else is available.

"There's no doubt we need to support the group. We had 20 players training this morning, of which some of those are our younger players, so we know we need to reinforce and top up the group. That's something we'll look to do.

"If we can do it, then great and if not, then we'll wait until the summer."
