We had a decent number of shots but didn't score from many. I think it will be a real challenge to get us to be efficient with possession.
It won't happen overnight Dave but BR has a better squad to work with than he had at Swansea so we should be reasonably confident.

I just think the weaknesses in last years squad are not alleviated but exacerbated by the change in system. We've lost Kuyt and Maxi who were both potential goal scorers have gone and only Borini come in.

In the long run the appointment may work out, and I do suspect it will be more of an evolution than a revolution but I think we will struggle for at least the first half of the season.

“It took Tottenham six transfer windows to put together a squad that could finish in the top four
No it didn't, it took two **** owners and LFC to implode for Spurs to be gifted a top 4 slot.

We still need I'd say 2 attacking weapons to complete the jigsaw plus Allen or the manager will need to rely on who he's got if we miss out on him.

I agree. Think we will improve our league position but I seriously doubt we'll be anywhere near top 4. Probably about 6th. That would be an improvement at least.

while i like the sound of a Gerrard/Lucas/Allen midfield I do worry about the lack of goals coming from midfield.

All the pressure for goals there is on Stevie G isn't it.

I know this is negative, but Liverpools golden days are long gone in my opinion. Rogers has his work cut out here, there's still way too much expectation. We're unable to compete for anywhere near the top players now. The best he is going to achieve is champions league qualification. 3rd place would be a miracle, 4th would be a fantastic achievement, in reality I think we're a top 6 side.

Rogers needs to be given plenty of time to try and cement our position into the top 6, and we need to understand that we're not going to achieve CL football every season if at all over the next 3 or 4 years. If we can play attractive football and muller the odd team here and there I'll be happy, but will FSG? What are they expecting Brendan to achieve? Dalglish was given a clear target, to qualify for the CL, if we don't do this over the next 2 years will they move him on? Are they being realistic in expecting this, if thats their target?

This may sound crazy to some but I don't think we're far from the top 4, the problem last season was we didn't seem to have a plan as to what to do or how to play. I know we have a number of players that people think are ****, but I believe with the squad we had last season we should have been able to get much closer to the top 4 than we did.

I think if Rodgers can get us playing with a decent system we will be much better this season and will genuinely challenge for the CL places. People say that the signings were the reason Kenny got the sack, or because we didn't make the CL but for me it was the lack of any cohesive game plan for large parts of the season. As sad as it is to say because I love the guy, we weren't going anywhere under Dalglish. I think if the team have a decent system, play decent football and make some progress Rodgers will be fine whether we make the CL or not.

I 100% agree fella, We are not that for off the top 4 as people think.

Last season we won 6 games at home, 6 ****ing games thats **** and only the bottom 6 bar Qpr won less at home than us.

Everyone is talking about being a 'top 6' team well a top six team last season won 12/13 games at home, So turn those ****ty draws into wins and we would have finished the season a couple of points behind spurs/arsenal

I really think if we see a pressing game at Anfield, the fans will get behind it and we can return to Fortress Anfield, do that and we can get Champions League.

AVB doesnt convince me at all and there playmaker is off,

Mancini isn't all that, but they should win the league next year

Scum there time has passed, but that cunt ferguson will have them up there

Chelsea have a big jigsaw puzzle to solve with a ****house upfront who isnt what he was and RBD will be bitchslapped into line by Terry so i see trouble ahead there.

Newcastle will have injuries this year and take there place back where they belong mid table.

We have plenty of question marks against us, but so does every other team to.

At lease we have a 180page blueprint to work to

I'm not sure. Whilst people say that we didn't have a game plan as such last season, there were plenty of games where we played good attacking football, the problem for me is in the quality of players at the club. Our finishing is abysmal and that again is not bad luck, its down to a lack of quality.

A manager capable of getting the best out of these players will get us fighting for 4th place but it would by no means be a gaurantee as we lack strength in depth and this isn't going to change anytime soon because our owners don't have the cash required to take us to the top.

I hope you're right and that FSG haven't demanded CL football as with Kenny. We need longterm stability as far as managers go, these last few years have been a bit of a media circus and it would be nice to return to the days where we look forward to the football and don't have to put up with all the ****e that has overtaken the game recently.

Optimistic post and fair play but i prefer the realisitic approach. IMO United will be very strong next year, no matter what financial troubles United have they always, ****ing always manage to fork out on big money signings, Chelsea have done some fantastic business with summer & with Cahill aswell, there is no way Wenger will let Arsenal drop they will always be there and there abouts.

City have an incredible side and will strengthen even more, Spurs have a very good side and thus far have made two very good signings in Sigurrsson and Vertongen & no doubts they'll make some more with the Modric money. Newcastle have a very solid team, great continuity there and will be tough opposition. As for their injuries... well the same applies to us as we have to improve our squad. Some absolute dross still left there.

We have so much to do as regards our football, attacking play & general finishing (which is embarrassing). I have no doubts will will be better than last year but i do not expect us to get 4th. I'd be happy being there or there abouts.

                              I rather agree with Suarez and L D P .

But I can't believe they won't give Rodgers time - three seasons at least - as long as there's clear evidence of building towards the ultimate goal. That includes establishing a coherent pattern of play and not wasting tens of millions on journeymen.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
