Lovren was very, very good for Southampton. So much so that Neville and Carra were raving about him last season. He's a modern, front foot defender.

Sakho is 1st choice for France with Varane, keeping Mangala out of the team.

Both look **** playing for us? reason for that is Gerrard.

You cannot play attacking full backs leaving the centre backs exposed with a holding/sitting/defensive midfielder in front who is great on the ball and a useless passenger off it.

Lovren played with Clyne and Shaw as full backs last season, they bomb on but he had Schneiderlin and/or Wanyama in front.
Sakho had Evra and Debuchy or Sagna as full backs with France who bombed on but he also had Pogba and Mutudi or Cabaye sitting in front.

Drop Gerrard and replace with Can who while raw can cover the ground and is a strong lad or keep Gerrard in the same role but tuck at least 1 of the full backs in.

Problem with that is Rodgers brought 2 attacking full backs in Manquillo and Moreno and let the perfect one for our current situation out on loan in Wisdom.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Earyl days yet but Rodgers needs to get things sorted quick because JW Henry won't put up with this for too long, look how quick King Kenny was ruthlessly dispatched

Its different with Rodgers. He is their man. I think last season brought him enough credit to last this season out, at a minimum.

its a bit more than just gerrard. we expect our width from our full backs but wont play two sitting midfielders. i can see why we played such in years gone

To be fair, the argument that Henry was 'forced' (though I prefer the word, needed) to bring Kenny in does hold some water. We needed to heal, and that happened in the short term, but I don't believe Kenny was ever going to be FSG's long-term plan for the upkeep of the team.
Rodgers is their man so I don't think he's bound to the same standards.

That said, there's a lot of money after flowing out the door, and you can imagine the reaction they'd have if Brendan knocked on the door looking for another 25m for a defender. He's in the black for the time being all the same.

Why? Does he even have the required coaching badges?

I'm all for improving the defence but I'd rather we bring in an experienced coach to help, if that is indeed what is needed, rather than an ex-player now enjoying life on Murdoch's gravy train.

Really like Rodgers but think he is tactically inept.

Would Rafa (i know, i know) or Jose lost 3-0? No, they would have set up defensively and scraped a draw.

Not for a defender anyway.....unless one is moved out.

Preferably with a big kick up the hole !

**** off with the Rafa bull****. Anyone would think we've never lost a game under him.

In our system it is solely Gerrard because that's the job he's picked to do.
Same system with Can in there and Gerrard more advanced it becomes Can's role.

Change the system or keep the system and change the players.

Exactly. There's every chance we would have got battered by them under Rafa too. Ronaldo is just that good that trying to shut up shop against them probably would have backfired anyway.

It was always going to be a nightmare fixture. We made a very poor job of it though. Extremely poor.

Worryingly it might get even worse in the away game as they only played for 40 minutes last night!
