As for above, yes I've been blinded by my disappointment with him leaving that I misstated Christmas. But he missed 6 key games (self inflicted so to speak) where the foundations were laid by others.

Suarez's best season still does not top what Gerrard can (at that age) and has done.

Ultimately Suarez drove us to a 2nd place and a nearly tag of runners up.

Gerrard has played a hand and in some cases the only reason our trophy cabinet is as full as its is over the last 10-15 years.

You're not really reading I wrote are you? And I wasn't raising it as being a Gerrard v Suarez debate - I was talking about Suarez INSPIRING the team to the challenge for the league.

Nobody was denigrating or trying to disparage Gerrard and his legacy, he was an awesome player.

But the fact remains, that over a league season, the only time Liverpool have really challenged for the Premier League and really come close, was with Suarez at his peak. Not Steven Gerrard.

That second place wasn't as close as the one just gone!

2009 we finished 2nd and Stevie was our top goal scorer!

Gerrard himself said that last season was the first time he felt like he was in a title challenge. He said it himself!

Footballers are notoriously thick, he's simply forgotten.

Truth is 2009 was never that close. United never looked like dropping points and pretty much coasted home. We never quite managed to put them under real pressure. Agree with Daniel 7.

I would say that Gerrard carried the team more however Suarez made more players lift there game by his just being on the pitch.

Not saying one was better than the other just different. I also don't see this as disagreeing with what Dan is saying either.

Gerrard was able to make one player look world class, whereas Suarez was able to make the manager look world class

I would agree that this doesn't disagree. Actually I'd go further and say it is pretty much in agreement with what I was saying before the disagreement was agreed upon by some other posters.
