Brendan Rodgers warned there will be 'more days like this along the way' while rebuilding Liverpool after his side crashed 3-0 at West Brom in the opening Barclays Premier League clash of the season.
Rodgers said: 'There is a big job to do and we will have more days like this along the way. That is the reality of it. It is still a work in progress.
'There will be days along the way that will hurt and it will be difficult for us.
'It is going to take time. Hopefully we won't have too many days like that and we will keep moving forward.'
I am a tad bit disappointed with Brendan for making that statement. woy would have been hung out to dry for saying something similar like that.
A team with Gerrard, Suarez, Reina, Lucas and our defense shouldnt go to West Brom and be outclassed, outfought and outthought. They also had a new manager, what was their excuse. And saying we need to expect such results in the future is not good.
We had some horrible performances in the league in Rafa's first year. However the fans adored him because they saw glimpses of his vision, his tactical genius, and an unquestionable desire to win in certain games.
The fans will be patient and accept such results as long as he shows the same proofs. Just making statements which imply I am trying to make this team play a superior level of football and it will take time wont cut it. we expect our managers to achieve the impossible. Whether that is good or bad I am not sure.
And oh, when you make statements along the lines of we are working on exciting signings, make sure they are exciting and they are in the bag.
Nah, the stuff Hodgson used to say was far far worse, like that was "the best we'd played all season" when we'd just been battered by Everton. There will be more slips up especially away from home along the way, maybe he shouldnt say it but it will happen.
I reckon Gerrard is starting to become a millstone for Brendan, he isn't suited to the passing game and he makes other players play within themselves. I though he was very poor last weekend, just like he was for most of last season. He hasn't been good for a while.
* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
I don't get these out-classed and out-fought comments? I mean, obviously when we went down to ten men we were chasing shadows and left lots of space, but up until that point we were behind to a worldie against the run of play.
The main area of concern - and the bit that needs to be addressed - is our shape when we don't have the ball.

Agree with that, considering Allen and Lucas were both playing I was a bit disappointed in how open we were. I'd like to see us line up with Gerrard as a forward and Shelvey or Henderson in midfield.

Yup, the space behind our full backs is vast; none of our midfield know when to cover that area when we concede possession.
It was a shock on Saturday, but I've still got massive faith in Rodgers and think he will surprise us before the end of the transfer window. I don't really care what all the journos (including Barrett) are saying, after all they didn't call the Assaidi signing. Our result, coupled with the City and Newcastle result, really emphasised the importance of having a quality striker who can bang them in.
We probably can't sign players from the very top table of European football, but we probably don't need to. Allen looks a great player and, assuming he adapts and maintains his form from the Dutch league, Assaidi could be great for us. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we could pick up a player of the ilk of Jelavic - obviously not Jelavic himself, but a player who is not a superstar, but a decent striker who can bang in the goals for us. If Everton can do it, why not us?
I do think that it's clear that Newcastle are gonna string us along until the last few days of the transfer window before making a half decent offer for Carroll. We really don't want to be stuck with the cash and no player on the last day of the window, so I hope that FSG take a chance and give Rodgers the money now that they are prepared to accept for Carroll so that he can get someone in. I think he has an eye for a player and could still surprise us and sign someone decent who can bang in the goals and get us up the league.
I think the one thing Rodgers can learn is 'talk is cheap'. Way too much has been made about this revolutionary new style that he will bring to Anfield. You'd almost think Rodgers had invented tikka takka. As much as Rodgers wants us to adopt his new style he is going to have to adapt his to fit the players we have otherwise his stay at Anfield will be short.
He will have no time to start making an impression so things need to improve quickly. The positives are that they can, our squad is good enough to start winning a few games and pick up some confidence. But I don't think we should be so openly explaining and courting the media about having a new style of football - no other team broadcasts there tactics in the way we have done this season.
Having a plan B is also a reasonable idea. Once We were down to 10 men sticking Carroll on had to be a reasonable idea, but again having publicly shown he dooesn't want the big man about it was fairly obvious we were going to stick with the tactics we begun the game with...
Less talk in the media, less sign and net changing. Focus on some strong work training and lets see the results on the pitch do the talking. It is a shame Rodgers will not have the 'war chest' Kenny was given last summer as you sense some real quality needs to ba added if our new style is to take root.
This is not an anti Rodgers post, so put the knifes away chaps. Just one stating concern.
