Surely the only barometer is last season - and although there's no trophy we've improved the points total, the goals scored, the attacking play etc. He's definitely making progress.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

to be honest not even sure thats fair either *Different times, different competition, different squad etc.

I think only the real pigheaded would not see we have made decent progress this year. Scored 33% more goals and yes our defence definitely needs work on, But I love the fact that we have a manager who is concentrating on Attack first after years of defensive minded managers.

And in Suarez, We have a world class talent and think Coutinho will join him there soon and Sturridge has all the ability to, Just a nagging doubt about his mentality which may stop him reaching the heights his talents deserve.

Perhaps. Larger or better-performing squads can be inherited and can make comparisons fuzzy, but I believe the issues that we have faced this year with regards to consistency and defensive frailities are experienced during most manager's first year in charge.

Like you say, taking this year alongside last year shows a marked improvement. Looking at the football being played on the pitch, it's almost a polar opposite.

I think there is plenty to be positive about, mainly in our attacking play. Still things he needs to sort out - mainly in defence and our shape in central midfield when we lose the ball, but I'm certainly optimistic about next season, especially if we can buy in the summer as well as we did in January.

          He's no Sami Hyypia however.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I'm not sure that the comparison is that simple. Last season we gave up post cup win in the league more or less. I've seen nothing particularly to suggest we are hugely mentally stronger now. We were frustrating last season - in particular failing to score in games which we were dominating there has been some improvement in that we thrash teams more but roughly the same proportion of games I'd guess we fail to score at all in.

I think we have done enough to suggest we are likely to be able to grow next season but I'm not completely convinced that we are yet a better team. We are however a different team and seem to know the road forward which is very different to how it felt at the end of last season.

...So basically you're agreeing Rodgers has made progress.

Nope. I think it feels different but that is not the same as being different. I still think it is too early to judge if real progress has been made.

"Seeming to know the road forward" seems like progress to me.

I understand your point but I'm not sure your distinction is all that helpful. We watch the game, how we feel about it is valid data. It's not all the data there is but I don't think it's right to discount it altogether.

It also reminds me of my reaction when I learned that fabric conditioners don't really unravel matted fibres to make them like they were when the clothes were new, they just coat them so they feel new. It was months or years later when I realised that the distinction didn't matter.

How people feel is important. I'm not happy but I feel happy... er...

We have made progress in attack but not in defense. We are **** defending crosses.

The mentality bit isn't better either.

We have made progress but is it enough progress considering how much money we spent on new players? I would say no

I doubt very much that City want Rodgers but it would be interesting to see what FSG would do if they offered us around £10m in compensation.

Rodgers would probably turn them down so FSG would need to say yes to City and by that way force Rodgers out.

                          No chance I would say.

Hmmm. Not at all convinced that is a valid comparison though.

I disagree. The players seems much more assured, confident and comfortable on the ball. This would point to them being more mentally 'better'
