The greatest Liverpool player ever, certainly in my lifetime, home grown, one club man who I have watched right the way through his whole career and the likes of which we probably won't see again! Whilst the time has come and no one can go on for ever and we will move on, it will still be said to say goodbye an thanks for all the great memories...it's also I tough reminder how I old I am actually getting!!! That's prob the hardest thing to take haha...think I was in 6th form when he broke through!

It feels weird to have witnessed the whole career of such a special player at my age (early 30's). It feels like something I will never experience again. I had seen some other great/legendary players such as John Barnes and Ian Rush but they had already established themselves and that was a different era in terms of football for the club and for my understanding and exposure to the game. Gerrard has been central to everything that the club has done over most of the last 17 years, the 2001 treble, carrying us for a few years just to qualify for the CL, the 3-0 come back against AC Milan, the last minute winner in the cup final. He's had a very Roy of the Rovers career - if you didn't see some of the stuff with your own eyes you wouldn't believe it.

He has been one of the greatest, and wherever he goes and whatever he does in football he will always be one of us. YNWA Stevie

I remember being at a game in 1999 when he was still breaking through, I was sat in the lower centenary when the team was announced and Gerrard was starting, some guy in front of me was really annoyed and thought that David Thompson should have started instead of him because "Thompson will always be a better player thann Gerrard". I often wonder what that guy has thought over the last 16 years and if anyone else remembers him saying it.
