Something like that. I understand that Gerrard is our Talisman and that most here think that the sun shines out of his ass. Im just not that overwhelmed by his performance. Not for us the last 3 years or for the National side either. I think he played a great game against Croatia in the qualifier where he really stood out but other than that I dont think he peaks often enough - if ever these days.Originally posted by Muddled View PostI think I've worked it out; that web-link is to back-up what RedReet has said, proving him right, but your logic says it's wrong?
All I am saying is that the 2006 version is not available anymore and that the 130000£ a week could probably be used better than on a 32 year old Talisman that hasnt really delivered the gods for quite a while. Yes, the Everton game was good and a few other performances has been ok but in general.
I am aware that this is not a popular thing to say and I know I will probably get the
and the
I dont mean to offend any of you - I just don't think he is that good anymore. Certainly not a player to build around these days. Injury prone and too old.

Haha! Yeah, it is funny how about a week ago it was so amazing that Rodgers moved him forward, coming off a great Euros, going to be boss etc now I've seen playing him called "looking to the past" and him called "a liability" after we lost one football match.Originally posted by RedReet View Post****! It's crazy. I think he'll have his best season since 08/09 FWIW, regardless of where we finish. If he stays fit of course. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I cannot see that at all.Originally posted by magicalbarnes View PostAs much as it pains me to say this, he's not the same player anymore.
He's still got the passing etc., but i just cant see him dominating games anymore.
If Rodgers is the no-nonsense type of guy we are led to believe, i reckon SG might be seeing some bench time this season.
I agree that he is not what he used to be but he still has a big part to play for us this year.
Besides, it is early in the season and it is expected that he is not at his best and he is still learning to play with his new teammates.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

its a good thing that we dont need steve to carry the team any more. he might not be capable of doing it all on his own any more, but now we at least have some other players of some quality that he can share the work load with.
its vital that we have no passengers, and everyone is making valid contributions. steve still does his bit for the team, and im more than happy for him to continue to pick up the silverware at the end of the season
removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

He's become quite prone to lapses in concentration over the past couple of seasons hasn't he. There's no question, he's not the player he was, but he still has the passing range, presence and character to be a top midfielder for us. Just like everyone else, he needs to adapt to Rodgers' system. It might even take a little longer for him beecause for so long he's been the one who's had to carry the team, now he needs to play more as part of a collective. I know we played this way under Rafa, but it feels a little different.
No one will be more frustrated with Steven Gerrard's last two performances than Steven Gerrard. He has the talent and the work ethic to put it right. He will put it right. I just hope he stays injury free.K ris90210

Pretty sure he said in his book that he'd never retire prematurely and would always be available for selection. People can change their minds though... I think it would do him good.Originally posted by magicalbarnes View PostMaybe its time for him to retire from international football, to give him a proper rest? Unfortunately, because he's now been given the captaincy i can see him prolonging his international career as much as possible.
Going from Rodgers' passing system to Roy's "Just fackin' boot it" system is bound to be pretty depressing!K ris90210
