      technically - according to the exact meaning; according to the facts;

According to the facts, we did indeed play in the CL in 2005.

And technically, CL winners do qualify for CL with their FA's approval, just like any of the other teams that do, we just needed to get that clarified in 2005.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The fact is correct, we did play in CL in 2005.

Strictly to the fact of technicallity at the time the winner of the CL did NOT automatically qualify for next years CL. It was the first time a CL winner finished outside domestic qualification, and we only got in because another team was thrown out (can't remember which, but believe it was a Chzech team).

The rule was changed after this, so that the CL winner would always be qualified.

If were being pedantic, Rafa didn't qualify to play in the 0/4/05 season. Houllier did.

So on a loop hole he did. But he didnt finish top 4 twice. That was the original point

i think Rafa wouldn't have a problem working with a Commoli-type figure to be honest. I think Rafa only wanted total power first time around because the set-up from youth level up was so poor. In reality, the Commoli presence isn't like Real Madrid where the manager gets little or no input in what players are coming and going....rafa would still have that for major transfers but now as well he would have a proper set-up for the recruitment and development of youth players as well (partially because he got Segura and the barca guys in the first place)

I think if Rafa was working with the current owners, then he'd do very very well.....also, i think the whole new philosophy of statistics, potential etc wouldn't be too far from Rafa's philospohy anyway - in fact it could be a match made in heaven.....

The set-back is without a doubt the Gerrard and Carragher factor. However, lets be honest here, Carragher is pretty much finished as a player......and i don't think Gerrard would leave liverpool now anyway. They'd just need to sit down in a room and work it out to be perfectly honest. At the end of the day, Rafa could say something along the lines of "look the whole H&G thing was a nightmare for everyone.......lets draw a line and start from there......now get back on the right hand side of midfield!!!"

At the end of the day, Gerrard was (supposedly) one of the guys that reccommended Woy......so it's unlikely that he would get a say in the next manager anyway......

I'd feckin love it if Benitez came back to LFC.......i don't think it will be this summer....but maybe one of the following 2 summers.

In the meantime, he needs to go to another football club. The danger is that he goes to another club and is so successful that he is never in a position to come back to LFC. The potential 2 jobs i could see him doing soon are Spurs and Chelsea.

Spurs. If Redknapp goes to Ing-ger-land, which seems to be a matter of when rather than if, then Rafa would probably be a perfect fit to be honest. I wouldn't like to see this to be honest because i reckon that with Rafa as their boss, then he could really bring them up a level. I think the spurs fans would rather someone like Klinnsman but Daniel Levy isn't as ****in stupid as the average Spurs fan. Spurs have a very good squad to start with, with some very good young players as well. With one or two additions, then Rafa could win the Champions League with them.......you can just imagine Modric going up another level altogether with Rafa in charge of him.....and Bale too. Rafa would probably go and buy a top defender and phase King out over a year or two and they'd be better for it......

Chelsea. They want to win the champions league. Rafa is the man for that. They want to get Torres playing properly. Rafa is the man for that. They want to phase out all the old players - i think Rafa would be the man for that as well...... although their fans might take a while to accept him, i reckon Benitez would get them playing a lot more effectively. If Benitez could work with Abramovich is probably the big question - i dont think Rafa would like the fact that Abramovich has Hiddink as his personal football manager HR consultant. However, Benitez might think "fook it, i can do it for a year / 18 months, win the CL and/or premier league with them, and be in a position to move home to the wirral as soon as the opportunity comes up"

So technically the holders didn’t not qualify either pre 2005, the position just had to be clarified, and as it turned out winning the tournament deserved qualification for the following year.

You're not being pedantic, you're talking about something else all together, no one mentioned qualification for 04/05.

And I know that was his point and I know it was said ironically, but my reply wasn't intended as serious either.

Can't see him going to Chelsea. Their fans surely hate him after all the CL battles..?

They forgave Fernando, so perhaps they can do it once more?

Or well, they have Torres at least

                        . . . . . . . and I think he'd be wary of Roman's predilection for hiring then firing.

Based on the fact that S_RED has been taking vast amounts of illicit drugs and slurping huge quantities of tequila straight from a fairy's boot - following his escape.

                              Allegedly.
