not sure what you meanOriginally posted by dom9 View PostHe always had the look of somebody lacking in self belief. That he looked like he was happy to even be on the pitch. If you don't think you're worthy, you'll never be worthy as a sportsman.

but when we already had shelvey/suso in the squad who could/would be our young 'squaddie' attacking mid it didn't make that much sense.
Yeah those two signings cost something like £15m and just don't seem to make much sense in the grand scheme of things. As a club for years we've had a habit of spending so much money filling the squad to the detriment of the first team.
Although I still think Will Hughes would have been a better signing than Alberto.

Scored a few goals (don’t forget ArsenalOriginally posted by Tee View PostNgog was a low price (IIRC) low risk signing who did not work out in the end, but still made his mark with that goal v Scum.
), contributed to our excellent 08/09 season and sold for nearly treble his original transfer fee.
I hope Borini and Aspas are the new N’Gog’s.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Alberto was playing reserve team football though. Hughes has been toughing it out in the Championship and looks a cut above. I think he'd have got some game time this season. I'm probably just being biasedOriginally posted by Alex View PostThere is no way to tell with Will Hughes though. Plus Alberto has had what, 10 minutes of game time over all?
Will Hughes is only 18 or so isn't he?
In both instances though, I would have left those signings to the end of the window. Just saying that Alberto and Aspas at the start of the window is probably not what we should have done

But did they prevent that happening or was it that we couldn’t get the big deals finalised?Originally posted by Sarb View PostI'm only pissing about anyway.
Personally think the signings of Alberto and Aspas were a bit of a waste in all honesty. That money could have been saved and gone on someone to immediately improve the first team of real quality. A signing to have been done really early in the windowIf we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Alberto to me looks quality - composed on the ball and intelligent, I'm confident he'll come good, agree with you on Aspas though, early days I know but it's not looking good for him.Originally posted by Sarb View Post

Alberto was playing for Barcelona B who play in the Spanish equivalent of the Championship, he's got the different county aspect to deal with though I suppose. I'd like Hughes but I can't see us going near £15m for him, he's completely unproven at this level, the English tax is ridiculous to be honest and its probably because of the clubs not being in a bad a financial position as the foreign sides.Originally posted by Sarb View PostAlberto was playing reserve team football though.
