I always said at the time it was unfair...

    there should have been

    Torres
    An Other
    Ngog

as the options with the other being better than ngog but not as good as torres was.

however like you've pointed, i am surprised that since dropping down a level he's just gone nowhere/done nothing - i thought he'd a least look decent at Bolton was it he went to?
He always had the look of somebody lacking in self belief. That he looked like he was happy to even be on the pitch. If you don't think you're worthy, you'll never be worthy as a sportsman.
    Oh I don't know.

Ngog was a low price (IIRC) low risk signing who did not work out in the end, but still made his mark with that goal v Scum.

but when we already had shelvey/suso in the squad who could/would be our young 'squaddie' attacking mid it didn't make that much sense.

Yeah those two signings cost something like £15m and just don't seem to make much sense in the grand scheme of things. As a club for years we've had a habit of spending so much money filling the squad to the detriment of the first team.

Although I still think Will Hughes would have been a better signing than Alberto.

Scored a few goals (don’t forget Arsenal ), contributed to our excellent 08/09 season and sold for nearly treble his original transfer fee.

I hope Borini and Aspas are the new N’Gog’s.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

There is no way to tell with Will Hughes though. Plus Alberto has had what, 10 minutes of game time over all?

Will Hughes is only 18 or so isn't he?

Alberto was playing reserve team football though. Hughes has been toughing it out in the Championship and looks a cut above. I think he'd have got some game time this season. I'm probably just being biased

In both instances though, I would have left those signings to the end of the window. Just saying that Alberto and Aspas at the start of the window is probably not what we should have done

Personally think the signings of Alberto and Aspas were a bit of a waste in all honesty. That money could have been saved and gone on someone to immediately improve the first team of real quality. A signing to have been done really early in the window
But did they prevent that happening or was it that we couldn’t get the big deals finalised?

Alberto to me looks quality - composed on the ball and intelligent, I'm confident he'll come good, agree with you on Aspas though, early days I know but it's not looking good for him.

Alberto was playing for Barcelona B who play in the Spanish equivalent of the Championship, he's got the different county aspect to deal with though I suppose. I'd like Hughes but I can't see us going near £15m for him, he's completely unproven at this level, the English tax is ridiculous to be honest and its probably because of the clubs not being in a bad a financial position as the foreign sides.

Not a great start to his career here really.

                            Early days though.

Will be a joy to a few on here who have written him off after 282 minutes of league action.

Annoying news, seems like everytime we get a few back a few more drop.
