    Seems quite the opposite logic.
I think because most frees are a last big payday and its better for the club to spread the cost over 3-4 years.

Can being 23, Juve are probably expecting to offer him another contract, so makes more sense to give him a big signing on fee, then higher basic wages which he'll expect again when he renews.

So what has he been earning up until now? I thought he was on 40k or something derisory like that

Sounds like he's got good cause

It's still a low amount relatively speaking......sure even Matip came in with over 100k, plus a large signing on fee (close to 4-5mil I remember correctly).
You'd expect Can to be looking for more than that (CL to CL, possible regular first XI member etc etc)

Having said that, Can is lucky to be getting his bus fare home right now given some of his performances this season.

daft by the club to refuse it, 70 isn't out of line with the rest of the squad, now we'll lose him for nothing. You just know he's the type to kick on when he leaves.

Could have sworn 50k+ has been mentioned in the past, but who knows.

Isn’t this where we should be flexing our financial muscle? Offer him £120k per week. He’s easily worth it. Think he could be one of the best midfielders in the game in a couple of seasons.
85 is a bit too low for him especially when is on a Bosman. That might explain his interest in a new deal with us (if that report is true, of course).

Distinct lack of interest from elsewhere as well.......though you could put that down to a Juve deal long in the promise.

Can't say I'm too bothered either way regarding Can - yes he's young and will improve but he doesn't do it for me.

I'm sure I read it was all about the Santa Claus and nothing to do with the salary offer, somebody wrote he was offered a much improved salary but wanted a low buy out clause, which the club disagrees with.

Yeah the story is he wants a release clause in his contract but the club doesn't do release clauses. Hope he stays.

I cannot see clubs in the continent also agreeing to give him close to 100K wages with a release clause.

How much have of the 85k would he see under Italian tax rules? It may be that 85k goes a lot further in the Italian shops than 100k does down the markets?

If they really wanted to keep him they'd give him a release clause - with the inflated prices at the moment they can make it a big number - better than letting him go for nothing surely. Yes it's sets a precedent but look at Neymar's release clause - no one is worth what PSG paid for him.
