Fair enough but for me, his position in these types of games is critical and he's not up to task nor will he ever be, he's too immobile and honestly I don't have the technical insight to put my finger on it but if I had to guess he plays much much better without the ball in an open game inside of with it in a compact game were you need vision etc .. he is no Xabi Alonso ... which is exactly what we need in these ganes .. someone who can dicatate the pace of the game from the centre of the park and hurt teams with the way he keeps the ball moving and cutting passesOriginally posted by Lecter View PostYou could apply that to a lot of players in our side thoughAnybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. You could apply all of the above to Wijnaldum more so for me because he frequently fails to win any tacklesOriginally posted by Nicey View PostFair enough but for me, his position in these types of games is critical and he's not up to task nor will he ever be, he's too immobile and honestly I don't have the technical insight to put my finger on it but if I had to guess he plays much much better without the ball in an open game inside of with it in a compact game were you need vision etc .. he is no Xabi Alonso ... which is exactly what we need in these ganes .. someone who can dicatate the pace of the game from the centre of the park and hurt teams with the way he keeps the ball moving and cutting passes
Out of all our midfielders Wijnaldum is the priority to get shot of not Can or even HendersonBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Unfortunately Klopp seems to highly rate him. I would move on Gini, his piss poor away form is reason enough. Henderson I feel a bit sorry for. I really rated him a season or so ago but clearly all is not well physically and dare I say mentally.Originally posted by Lecter View PostYou could apply all of the above to Wijnaldum more so for me because he frequently fails to win any tackles

He tends to play well in big games but otherwise he seems to offer very little, also there is a marked difference in his level at home and away from home, and it's not just the goal scoring record. I don't think that I would play him in away games. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We need a squad though, with players that are suited for different games.Originally posted by Lecter View PostYou could apply all of the above to Wijnaldum more so for me because he frequently fails to win any tackles

Wijnaldum has proven himself to be a lynchpin in big games, where he seems to keep the ball, have the ability to link up play and pass and move effortlessly. He was great against City. I also think he will be a guaranteed starter should we progress in Europe and in any of the other big PL battles we have coming up.
He doesn't suit the more attritional pitch battle type away games such as the one we had on Monday. Where of the current squad even Henderson should start ahead of him.
I wouldn't sell him. I wouldn't sell Henderson or Can either. We need a squad with genuine depth.

Playing well in big games is a pretty decent attribute to have...!

Ok perhaps that's true, and while we do need players for different situations. Playing well in big games is one situation but I don't think that we can have players who only play well in about 5 games a season. Also if players can play well in big games but not in the lesser games to me that suggests either an attitude or motivational problem.Originally posted by Buzzo View Post

Very true, but there's probably 12 "big" (home and away against Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton) league games a season and 26 games against "lesser" teams.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostWe need a squad though, with players that are suited for different games.

He's such an enigma, capable of doing great things but also capable of stinking the place out. It's obvious he needs a run in the side, but then I don't think he's going the stamina to play a string of games without a rest.
If he goes I'd be more disappointed we didn't get a fee for him than him actually leaving.Last edited by Jaymo; 24-01-18, 11:18 PM.
