Do you not think? No chance of Skrtel or Johnson or Lovren keeping Hazard that quiet over 2 games and while I love Sakho Can is much better in possession.
No chance of Skrtel being as dominant against Heskey as Can was either v Bolton.

He'd be better at right back than Johnson, Flanagan or Manquillo because he's proved he can play RCB and RWB, full back is a piece of piss after that.

While Lucas has been very good for the last 10 games or so he is still immobile and laboured in possession.
Remember that Can's best position is holding midfield, he's been this good without playing in the position he knows the best.

    Just a brilliant footballer.
Has to play every week, regardless of the position he's used in.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Did Skrtel not completely mark one of the best strikers in the world out of the game in both legs? Your hatred of Skrtel is pretty incredible

I really like Can and he was good last night but Hazard gave him and Henderson absolute nightmares at times on that left side.

        Really ??

You see, I like Can, and I think he'll develop into a very good player for us, though I believe that'll be in midfield.
But while he has become an important factor in the back 3, I think it's too early to elevate his performances to absolute fact. I mean, he played well as the main CB against Bolton, but it was against a completely blunt attack which allowed him to take a more positive step, sure even Sakho was spending large portions of the game in their half.
Then you only need to go back to the Wimbledon game, where Can had a torrid hour (even last week in the first leg, he recovered well after a sub-par first half).

This is just typical of a young player, adapting to changing circumstances in the team, impressing at times, making errors at other time. But it's good to see him getting as much playing time as possible. I thought he played well last night (think I had him just outside my top 3), but his composure and control let him down at times both early in the game, and in the draining added time, but he never shirked his responsibility and was afforded decent protection from both Markovic and Henderson late on, which is something Sakho, for his little faults, is not seeing in comparison IMO.

Love the runs he makes from that RCB position, even if he finds himself running into an alley more often than not. But he's always looking for the outlet going forward, even if he was finding it tough last night at times with the pace of the game.
I just think we should rein in some OTT declarations about a young player finding his way in a new country, new club etc, and just appreciate the effort and level he's finding himself in over the last couple months.

I'm not Skrtels biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination but he was fantastic in two legs against Costa and kept him pretty quiet in both the games. It wasn't all about Skrtel though as the defensive unit as a whole has been excellent of late. the changes to a back 3 and getting Lucas to shield the defence has worked wonders.

He is really rather good isn't he. At the moment I'd keep him in defense as he offers a calming influence back there when he's on the ball, that's helping the other defenders and Mignolet.

Ultimately I'd like him to forge a dynamite partnership with Henderson in the centre of midfield.

He just needs to feel loved, not constantly blamed and criticised for a whole sides deficiencies when they appear.

Not saying he's been perfect, but he's been far from as bad as has been made out at times. imho.

edit: Ok, i'm talking about Skrtel here. Wondered where the **** my post had gone in his thread.

To be fair, I think it's only Niall Quinn who harps on around it. Even when praising any bit of play last night, he still needed to qualify it by bringing up what he was like in his first appearance or so.

                  Lanky streak of ****ing cum.

Edit: Only saw your edit Verm. Still, the point about Quinn being a waste of space is still, and always will be, valid.

This! Only turned 21 the other week and he's already bossing the **** out of games from centre back. He's just got "it". Some can try and play him down but nah, he's brilliant, it's obvious, and unfortunately wont be going unnoticed in Madrid or Munich either!

Exactly, those types of players are rare and certainly rare to snap up before anyone else comes calling to stockpile them. I hope we tie him down to a 6+ years contract with a huge buyout clause because Madrid and Barcelona will come knocking in 2/3 years time - or less.

I reckon he'll go to one of those teams too, sadly.

Love Can... has done such a great job since coming in. Hard to believe he's so young. If we can hold onto him, he could become some player for us.

Doing a great job at RCB.

As a midfielder, not seen enough to say he can dominate there for us. Carragher was a great CB in his day, he wasn't much use as a DM though.

He's supposed to be a more natural midfielder though so I guess we will see!
