Also, Harry Wilson could be a useful first team squad player next season (similar to Lallana?)
    Another MASSIVE game

Don’t misunderstand me, I like him as a player but he’s not even an option from the bench if he’s injured / not fit or on form cos on his way back from injury.
      3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I’d say thanks for the memories now gerrrr out!! His style will age horribly as well if he ever stops getting injured that is.

Good teams and managers are ruthless. It's easy for fans to say move him on as we don't know them personally but at times we keep players well past their best. And also with the wages we play can hamper us in moving players on.

he is talented but forever injured so having hi as a squad option is irrelevant if he is not available. Definitely agree, we have to be ruthless.

Whilst I'm perfectly happy to accept he offers little when as frail as he is currently, it's not that long ago he was at least relatively regular, and how much are we really likely to gain through his departure?

Free up some money from the wage bill. What are we likely to lose? When Keita comes and perhaps Jorginho will he get into the first team and are his injury troubles likely to stop dead?

He’s one of our higher earners but he’ll not be any more than a squaddie for us now. Moving him on would free up a huge salary that could be better spent elsewhere. The way out recruitment team have been going, I’d back them to replace him with a better player.

If Klopp's happy to move him on, then fine, but I think we do underestimate the importance of having players who understand the manager's ideas. Bringing in a new player requires them to be intelligent enough to adapt to Klopp's ideas, and also settle quickly.

Next season, we will have Henderson, Keita, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Milner in the middle of the park. That excludes a replacement for Can.

Arguably, we could get rid of Lallana, and be somewhat OK, depending on what happens with Milner in terms of staying, and his physical attributes. That'd mean we wouldn't have to bring in a direct replacement, but again, it depends on Milner, and also, Ben Woodburn's development.

Surely the summer recruitment undermines that opinion? Salah, Robertson and Oxlade-Chamberlain were able to force their way into the team in their first season.

I think potential gains are likely to be minimal. If he's the high paid huge crock he's being painted as, what are the chances someone is prepared to buy him and cover his wages in full? Throw in us giving Lallana a severance pay off as well, I don't see us gaining an enormous amount from the deal. It's unlikely to be an amount that makes any significant difference to what else we bring in, particularly in our current position.

Yes, new recruits can force their way in. Salah was in a position we needed straight away. Robertson and Oxlade-Chamberlain took a while longer.

Another way to look at the situation is this - would people be happy if we sold Lallana and didn't bring in a replacement?

I think a player like Lallana is a bonus to have in the side, and at the moment, we don't have a creative player like him, which is probably what Klopp hinted at post-match.

“He is our boy, our friend, our mate, he is having a difficult season already,” added Klopp. ”Maybe the achievement of the season is that the team has been doing everything they’ve done without Adam Lallana.”
Does that sound like Klopp's going to ditch a player he holds in such high regard?

I think Klopp will have a look at it all in pre-season, including assessing the likes of Milner, Woodburn, and Grujic, before deciding what to do.

Red_Polo has also pointed out about the financial issues with Lallana.

His contract will only have about 18 months left by the summer and we wouldn’t necessarily need to pay him off anyway with so little left to run on it.

He’s on something like £150,000 pw. I reckon we could more than adequately replace him with someone on less than half that. And that would still leave us with £75,000 pw to play with elsewhere.
