TBF I don't suppose BR thought Sturridge would get completely ****ed for 4 months. And even if he did, he could not account for how utterly ****e the back-up has been. Without Sturridge we basically have no other attackers right now worthy of the shirt IMO.

The failure of the backups is a definite failing rather than misfortune though. The one thing we were supposed to be claiming we'd done this summer was give us strength in depth. As you say, we certainly don't have that in forwards!

I think part of the problem is that we haven't adapted to the differing strengths of the players we bought in. It took Rodgers a fair while to get to grips with the squad when he came (and he had Suarez then). I'm still hopeful that at least some of the attacking signings will show their worth this season, but it will need something resembling a plan B to emerge.

Can't disagree - the way Balotelli for instance has been used makes little sense to me. Not enough looking to run beyond him, not enough of the things that would potentially make it work in my eyes. I refuse to believe that players are so abject at following that sort of basic instruction, so I'm inclined to see it as a failing of the manager to get the signing to work.

Like you say, if a plan B emerges that might change. But my overwhelming feeling is that the strikers (as opposed to attacking midfielders and wingers) don't fill me with confidence by virtue of a combination of their assets and the way we use them. If there's any truth to the Origi rumours, then that may be the case as far as Rodgers is concerned too.
