He's transformed Lovren and Kolo into dependable CB's, probably reckoned he could do the trick again on Marty. You're just a bloke Jurgen, not a miracle worker. Nobody is that good.

    Terrible sub.

We were struggling for control all game in midfield. We were excellent on the counter in the first half and exploited spaces between Southampton's midfield and defence. But we were never comfortable. Klopp should have addressed by sacrificing an attacker for another midfielder at half time. Sometimes he needs to be a bit more pragmatic.
      Are we winning?

Klopp a bit pissed at Benteke?

Beyond the fact that Lovren as on a yellow I see no reason to change, and Kolo was also on the bench, and finally Skrtel was gash against an u21 side. Klopp must have got a report on that.

            Perplexing.

In fairness Lovren seemed to be having a difficult time of it in the first half and was on a booking, he had had a few shakey moment - the booking and the penalty incident, to name a couple. I think it was reasonable to consider making a change, especially with the side 2-0 up it's understandable that you don't want to make a mistake and see Lovren sent off and let them back in the game.

Skrtel is an experienced defender so you don't expect to send him on and him gift the win to the opposition, it's not the change I would have made (I would have gone with Kolo) but on paper it isn't a terrible change to make
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Lovren was having a poor game so I get the decision to get him off. Skrtel has been out for months, Toure should have been the choice Imo. Also no way Benteke should have been on, the midfield were struggling to cope with Wanyama and Mane... Henderson should have a banker to come on to shore things up.

Two very poor choices for me, whereas Koeman made two excellent choices.

I can see the thought process behind Klopp's decision. Going by our first half performance, Klopp has seen the opportunity to give Skrtel some game time and remove the risk of being reduced to ten men by having him replace Lovren. We were coasting and looked to be in a position to build on that.

What Klopp won't have expected is Skrtel to turn in that absolute cluster**** of a performance. And why should he? Regardless of his perceived ability, he's a seasoned international with a number of years experience!

Klopp made the call and yeah, he has to shoulder some blame, but that's Skrtel. And seeing people refusing to accept his limited ability and focus all the blame on to Klopp is making my toes curl.

I don't think Lovren was too bad. Flannagan didn't have the best of games and that didn't help. Swapping Skrtel for Lovren exacerbated the problem. Skrtel takes the flack but Klopp should equally be taking it for making the wrong decisions, especially if it turns out his hand wasn't forced due to injury.

Flannagan didn't have the best of games and left his centre back exposed, so at least if there was a tactical decision to make, it should have been to deal with that situation.

Klopp gets more decisions right than he does wrong. What he is learning though are the guys he can turn to, the guys he can trust when he brings them on.

He definitely knows Big Chris will not do what he wants given the bollockings he always gets, and he is now learning that Marty causes chaos whenever he is on the pitch. Once Klopp has some of his own signings he will be able to assess situations and decide which players he can utilise.

Its a big defeat today, and I'd imagine another nail in Big Chris's coffin and Skrtels too. Being brought on at 2 up, giving a way a pen and 3 goals in 45 mins is horrific.

Agree with that. Hindsight makes the Skrtel sub appalling, but it's the player himself who must take much of the blame for his performance.

The fact Benteke didn't work either makes it look even worse but with Firmino and Ings out we were short of a better option.

Ultimately for some time now three of our weakest links have been Mignolet, Skrtel, Benteke and stuff like this is inevitable until they are usurped by genuinely superior players.
