Skrtel comes on at 2 nil up and gives a pen away (that is missed) chaos ensues and all of a sudden the defence ship 3 goals. I dunno what other evidence is really required? But if ever there was a case of an entire team capitulating because of one player, then this is it. Skrtel, much as Benteke, doesn't know how to play in the system that he has been told.
A game away from home at 2 nil is never done and dusted though is it mate? For any team to or fan think that is very naive. Southampton were always going to play better than they did in the first half & was obvious that Mane & Wanyama would come on.

By the reaction of a certain few you'd swear i'm defending Skrtel & that I think he's the best CB of all time. FFS I think in every post after the game i've made it clear that he had a ****ing nightmare, pretty evident. I just can't abide by the notion that one player can make another 10 players all around the pitch to suddenly stop playing.... because that is what happened. "If" that is the truth and someone seem to think it is, then what does that say about the other 10 players?

So basically you're saying that the midfield capitulated and were out fought/out battled & our strikers missed chances and stopped working.... because of Skrtel came on and had a complete nightmare? If indeed one single player can come and cause that complete and utter collapse, then the rest of the players are absolute bottlers.

People are angry and I get that, I am too. But IMO it's more logical to suggest that not only did Skrtel contribute to the loss (AND HE DID NO QUESTION) but also that Southampton were aggressive and went at us right from the start of the second half & that the introduction of Mane & Wanyama had a huge impact on the game. They made the right subs, we made the wrong subs.

Also, I've missed the part were apparently I am defending Skrtel? To clarify, I am not just merely suggesting others factors at play

we cant blame kloppo for taking off lovren who was struggling and replacing him with an experienced international centre half in skrtel. We all know how **** skrtel is and somehow hes survived benitez, hodgson and rodgers tenures.

those 45 minutes against southampton showed what the other managers couldnt see in years. Martin Skrtel's liverpool career is over.

Hopefully Klopp can see at this stage who he wants to keep and who he wants to get rid of. Personally apart from Coutinho, I couldn't give a ****e if all of them left.

Maybe he should try the envelope trick.

I'd also keep Sakho and Clyne. Lallana and Allen would make decent benchwarmers, Benteke, Henderson, Ibe, Milner, Skrtel, Mig, Moreno can all get the **** out, along with a few others.

The squad clearly isn't as bad as Dan is suggesting. Suggesting Phil Coutinho is the only player worth keeping is a bit of a 'toys out of pram' over reaction to a performance that was knee capped by the introduction of the hapless Slovak.

Seems to me that Soton got the pressure on us early and we didn't react to it , saying that Benteke scores his chance and we win still.

Spine lacks something for me when Mig , Skrtel , Allen , Sturridge are in it as none of them are leadership material for me.

it is better when we only perm 2 from 4 out of that lot . though I would never moan at Allen for his workrate he just gets done by bigger players and needs some help.

You've hit the nail on the head when you say it's the spine.

                              Because when this is right:

You realise that the players we need are right through the middle of our team. A goalkeeper, a central defender, a central midfielder and a striker (of a high calibre) instantly improve our team tenfold.

It's a very important summer ahead.

This was the first time in Premier League history that Liverpool lost a game in which they were leading by two or more goals at half-time.

They have led at the break by two or more goals on 115 previous occasions and won 112 of those matches, drawing the other three. The draws came against Manchester United (October 1992), Manchester City (May 1996) and Leicester (January 2015).

Of the ever-present teams in the Premier League, Everton and Manchester United are now the only clubs to have yet to lose a game they led by two or more goals at half-time. Everton have led by two or more goals at half-time 77 times (W70 D7), while Man United have done so 149 times (W146 D3).
