He simply cannot be relied upon, neither can Keita or Ox. Fustrating
You can add Shaqiri to that list.

Shame because all are really good players.

How long is left on his contract? I can't see it getting renewed, as with Lallana, there comes a time when you have to accept it and move on. Naby needs to go if we can fund a buyer too, the situations never going to change, we've seen enough of players like this in the past and you keep hoping that they'll magically stay fit for a bit and it never happens. You just get a feeling about certain players.

Makes the decision not to give Wijnaldum the 4 years he (seemingly) wants even more strange.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Not even remotely connected tho, I doubt Matip is on high wages and CB is less of a demanding role than midfield.

I know they aren't connected but there the comparison is for context. Matip is reportedly on £100k a week and Wijnaldum £75k, Gini has played 200 games in 4.5 years most of which have been a full 90 mins, Matip has paid half of that in the same time and I haven't seen the stats but I would imagine that there is a fair number of sub appearances in that.

Ok so Wijnaldum would get a pay rise (£150k a week is mentioned) and this is very much hypothetical but if I were asked would would represent better value for money in terms of minutes on the pitch I would pick Wijnaldum on £150k over Matip on £100k every time. As good a player as Matip is you just can't rely on him, Gini has played almost every game for 4 years. Yes I get the point that midfield in more demanding than defence, but Matip is struggling to stay fit at 29, it's rare that players injury record gets better when they get older than that.

He was a free transfer via a pre contract, hence the high wage

                          that doesn't matter to Gini.

He is looking at what is going on in training and games every day. And he is looking at who is adding more to the club. So over the past few years, he has been instrumental to us winning big trophies. But at the same time, he has watched the likes of Lovren, Mignolet, Lallana, Matip, Sturridge, Keita, Shaqiri all earn 1.5 - 2 times what he does without making a fraction of the contribution he does. The club then sign Thiago on a big wage and again it is Gini who we are relying on.

So he is pretty within his rights to put his hand out, and do his best Robert De Niro in Goodfellas impression.

Covid 19 means the club is tight for cash?? **** you....pay me.
Ohhh you don't want to give a 4 year deal to a 29 year old??? **** you....pay me.

The club will pay his replacement more.........and he is likely to contribute less too.

this is absolutely spot on, too many injury prone players that are not contributing much but sucking dry the wages. Madness to ignore someone like Gini who has been like a machine since joining us and who's level of performance has been top notch & still has a good 3 or 4 years left in him. Keita, Matip, Ox and Shaq we are just not getting value for money out of them and that's a couple of hundred grand per week and whatever we get transfer fund wise that we can put towards better value for money players that might just stay fit for 2 games in a row.
