Gomez gets extra sympathy cos he's trying to fill two roles as well, he's playing both CB and RB at times cos Trent is awol. I wonder if Joel keeps Trent more in line and reminds him of his first duty, defending?

There is probably some truth in this, but FFS, Trent is a senior player now, we can't have some babysitting him on the team at all times.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostNot that he’s the long term solution and also appreciate this comment may be triggering for many, but historically Hendo is all over Trent all game. He doesn’t let him rest . Constantly bollocking him, Trent needs that.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Indeed.
He was terrible last game, but could not fault his effort and his attempts to be proactive.
Matip was imperious for the most part in that second half and made TAA, Gomez, VVD and Robertson look very ordinary.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

The problem imo that is growing with Henderson is not that he cannot read the game, it is that his body cannot do what it did three, four, five years ago on a weekly basis.
He really needed to be transistioned to the Milner role by now rather than being a nailed on starter more often than not when fit.
If we were able to manage his minutes better then what he had in the tank every game he played in would be able to keep up with his reading of the game more often.
He still has plenty to offer the team on the pitch, I just feel it needs to be as a guy who plays less minutes so that his quality stays high. Be the guy who fills in for when the right sided 8 or the number 6 are out/need resting as he can still play both roles.
Imo.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Gomez had what was probably the worst half game I have seen him play. He was awful and nothing he tried worked. But he did keep trying and despite all the fouls ups he kept trying to do his job.
TAA on the other hand would break forward, we would lose the ball and there was an utter lack of effort to get back into position and at least five times in the first half he left the badly out of form Gomez in a footballing no man's land of having to decide between moving out to Napoli's left winger or staying with Napoli's central attacker.
Throw in Elliot staying out wide a lot as well and we did not even have our RCM getting into a position to help out the badly out of form Gomez.
VVD having a bad game as well just added to the **** show along the back line.
Gomez I have a little sympathy for because he still did not hide and he kept trying, but the fact he was awful is unchanged.
Obviously I am no fan of Gomez, I think he is a bang average defender, terrible positional sense but his pace papers over the many cracks in his game but at least he is trying. Trying and failing but nonetheless trying.
A few on here have been saying it's burn out etc but what Trent has been serving up is not burn out, it's compete lack of effort and desire. People should take a good look at those replays several of the goals we've conceded for this to hit home. The same with VVD, casual and lazy which is not the players we know. Trent is amazing going forward when on his game and we have been able to forgive his defence lapses because of this and because he is expected to play high up the pitch we do get caught on the break. When he's not producing up top, their is hyper focus on his defensive game which we all know isn't great. Robbo isn't suffering from lack of effort, just loss of form... as frustrating as that is watching him and Trent hitting the first man 500 times in every game, at least with Robbo it's loss of form but never lack of effort or desire. For me, that is at least understandable.
The defence is a mess, I honestly believe Trent would have ben dropped for the Wolves game as an example but we have time on the training field now to set things right, rather than jumping into the next game to prove a point. Whether that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen. I always felt historically under Klopp the team seems to lose it's rhythm when there is a break but I suppose that's what we've been struggling with this season so things are very different.

this is absolutely spot on too imo. Trents needs a player in front of him to give him defensive support, cover and guidance. Hendo has done this very well in the past although whether he can do it now I'm not so sure, verbally maybe but physically I dunno. One thing I am sure about though is that Elliot cannot do that. I'm not criticising the young lad, he's just a kid but I do wonder whether him starting is stifling & negatively impacting us defensively.
