There is no scapegoating because there's nothing to make excuses for, we're doing well. But that has little to do with whether Nunez is performing at the level he should be. He's dropping deeper but doesn't have the skills with the ball to excel at it, and when he gets chances in the box, he doesn't have the composure to finish them. There is clearly potential for someone else to do the job much better and make us better.

There isn't a striker on the planet that would excell in our setup.
    That's a wild statement.

What can I say, it's a wild day outside. It may have influenced my thinking.

Joking aside, he looks bloody good in the false 9 or number 10 roles and really good as an actual number 9. Work rate like Dirk Kuyt but is a good finisher with loads of pace and plenty of skill.

Now he does play in a very weak league, but at the same time keeps up his roughly 1 in 2 scoring rate at International level for Canada so the finishing side of things seems to stay constant no matter what team he is lining out for.

24 and on a free next summer, so a somewhat low risk punt if he could be tempted.

For me he is starting to get close to a young Lautaro Martinez, who himself is only 27 now and still excellent imo, in terms of style of play.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Nkunku or Joao Pedro would be Bobbyesque for me

I was having a wee look at the Firmino thread, in his 3rd season, to see if the comments could make me think of a suitable player. Seems like Nunez is the perfect replacement as they are both complete **** and not suited to how we play, according to resident experts.

I wonder if the `proper false nine' will gain as much traction as the favourite counter argument last time...

Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I agree...and I have been one of those saying "give him time". I thought he was rubbish in the second half of Wednesday's game.

I think we need to move on and he was poor last night but I think there’s been serious over reaction to the “misses”

The answer is Cunha at Wolves

He would be brilliant as our false 9

His overall contribution is very good and is the only viable option we have that can be both physical and direct when that's what's called for. His obvious weakness is that he isn't an elite level finisher, which can be frustrating at times. Not as frustrating however, as Jota, who is an elite level finisher that happens to be made of biscuits. I think defences generally hate playing against Nunez, which has a value on its own.

If he was as ****e as our resident experts think, then Slot wouldn't be playing him.

Slot has already shown us that if he doesn't rate you then he wont play you unless we're desperate.

Guess the true acid test will be when soft lad Jota comes back from his latest injury and whether he goes back straight in. He wasn't really doing much better than Nunez before his injury too, wasted quite a few chances from memory

A bit left field but ex-Everton striker Ademola Lookman would be an interesting shout too.
