Guess the true acid test will be when soft lad Jota comes back from his latest injury and whether he goes back straight in. He wasn't really doing much better than Nunez before his injury too, wasted quite a few chances from memory
I think Jota will come back in when he's fit, both Jota (4) and Nunez (3) have a similar number of goals in all competitions, but Jota's are in ~650mins of game time and Nunez in ~950 which makes Jota about twice as prolific.

Obviously that is just one stat and there is a view that Nunez might contribute more to overall play...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I haven’t heard that argument from anyone here in the last few days - can you elaborate a bit more?

Joking aside, he looks bloody good in the false 9 or number 10 roles and really good as an actual number 9. Work rate like Dirk Kuyt but is a good finisher with loads of pace and plenty of skill.

Now he does play in a very weak league, but at the same time keeps up his roughly 1 in 2 scoring rate at International level for Canada so the finishing side of things seems to stay constant no matter what team he is lining out for.

24 and on a free next summer, so a somewhat low risk punt if he could be tempted.

For me he is starting to get close to a young Lautaro Martinez, who himself is only 27 now and still excellent imo, in terms of style of play.

His xg v goals was pretty much the worst in Europe last season. He still needs 10 chances to score. The team has pleny of chances so its just as easy to blame his positioning.

To me he actually seems more effective as a provider. Pretty sure most peopme ate not too fussed as long as we are winning. It not a short term problem as we have r other quality options

By no means am I blaming Slot, but he seemed better suited to Klopps system, he seemed to find and be in better positions to score last year. This year it seems like he is barely getting a sniff of the ball, him and the ball are like the north pole of one magnet facing the north pole of another. His shots per game must be way down?
He finds it difficult to play off the last defensive line, usually gets caught offside, I don’t know really, I’m sure slot is trying everything to find his best position but if the IQ is not there to match the talent, I’m not sure he will ever make it at this level. Certainly won’t be surprised to see him moved on if his output doesn’t improve sharpish.

It's not klopps system, or slots system that's the issue...
He's better in a fast counter attack, but struggles when there is a compact defense that we are trying to play through.

This thread is an allegory for Darwin himself.

Basically, all over the place. No method. Just madness.

Bottom line for me is in a final (or a crucial game) - when chances are slim - I would not trust him to finish a good chance, let alone a half chance. Sure he may produce a moment of brilliance or run around so much that other players get an opening, but I wouldn't trust him to take a pen in a Champs League final. That's the problem for me, he's not dependable in spite of everything else he might do, and I just think a player in our team in that position should be dependable enough in those situations. Would love him to prove me wrong, but he won't.
                        Really?

                            Look at his record
1st season at Benfica 14 goals in 44 games, 2nd season 34 goals in 41 games
1st season at LFC 15 goals in 42 games, 2nd season 18 in 54 this season.

Three seasons in there are fairly consistent Ok here I suspect more of his appearances were from the bench so he might have done slightly better in his time here than his first season at Benfica. But what was he doing in that 2nd season at Benfica? he's gone from about 1 goal every 3 games to 1 goal in every 1.2 games and back again, I know players have hot streaks but not usually a whole season for context that is a similar goals to games ratio as Salah had in the season he got 44 goals for us. Was his finishing so much better then or were Benfica creating loads of chances for him and he was putting some away?

His goal rate for the national team is outstanding, when he plays for us he looks he has weight on his shoulders, when he misses a sitter you can see he is embarrassed, he normally smiles or some other facial reaction to try and cover it. Maybe it’s a confidence thing when he plays for us? If he can bag a few in successive games it would do him and us the world of good.

I'm starting to wonder if he is a bit like one of his countrymen in Diego Forlan.

Pretty lethal at one club, then gets a big move and is consistent rather than spectacular, then when he moves elsewhere he just starts banging them in again.

Some players just do not perform to the same level at one club and then do really well everywhere else they go for whatever reason.

Would not surprise me at all to see Nunez go to a league like La Liga and just tear it up there. Do think he gets more crticism than he deserves most of the time but at the same time I think he (and maybe a couple other attackers in the team to be fair) are very much in the last chance saloon stage of their Liverpool careers.
