Absolutely convinced Nunez has been cursed after showing up Haaland in that first game of the season. 400 post hits and keepers blocking his shots with their feet. Someone piss on his leg to get rid of it.

Feel sorry for Nunez sometimes, he has decent technique behind his shots, misses a few chances gets subbed off and sees his replacement scuff one in.Last edited by Exiled_red; 02-01-24, 11:35 AM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

They are all behind Mo, but the other four are pretty close together and is not as though you could look at any of Jota, Gakpo or Diaz and say for sure that any one of them would bring more by way of goals and assists than Nunez when their track records are what they have been so far this season.
Right now for all the chances he misses, the next best guy we have for getting goals and assists is Nunez. Jota is pretty much neck and neck with Nunez for getting goals this season but he is miles behind on assists given he has one in all comps this season.
Diaz and Gakpo combined have less assists than Nunez.
So easy to say Nunez needs to improve on his returns, but think it is fair to then also say that the same thing applies to Jota, Gakpo and Diaz.
Did think Nunez played well last night though. If your striker does not score then you hope he at least sets up a goal and that he did.
Same logic applies to Jota, Salah and Gakpo when it comes to last night for me.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I'd put Jota way before Nunez. He's been out for a big chunk of the season with injury which is his main problem and that's not going away. But I think he's miles better down the centre. I think Diaz is consistently more effective but not by much. Gakpo hasn't been here that long so it's harder to judge and doesn't play that much. Nunez consistently plays in that position - he is being given plenty of chance to cement his position but I don't find him compelling at all. That's not to say he's ****, he's just not good enough for me on the whole given what I've seen of him. Not good enough to be a permanent Liverpool number 9 based on his performances so far anyway.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostThey are all behind Mo, but the other four are pretty close together and is not as though you could look at any of Jota, Gakpo or Diaz and say for sure that any one of them would bring more by way of goals and assists than Nunez when their track records are what they have been so far this season.

Hopefully he'll prove me wrong but he's the third player in the last few years where I've come to the conclusion he's not good enough for his position and we need to look elsewhere - the other two were Keita and Karius.
Put it like this, if he continues with the form he has shown so far until the end of the season my money would be on Klopp selling him and getting someone else in.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

Does he overall though? He's had a couple of crackers (the Newcastle ones for example) but as far as I can see most of the time he gets his head down and leathers it at the keeper as hard as he can manage, often at the kind of height that makes it easy for them to save it. His technique seems fitful to me. And sometimes, let's face it, his technique really lets him down. There's not really any getting away from that.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostFeel sorry for Nunez sometimes, he has decent technique behind his shots, misses a few chances gets subbed off and sees his replacement scuff one in.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I was more thinking of technique than accuracy, I think generally he hits the ball well, often too well getting too good a contact, and they get blasted over or wide or hit the bar, whereas a less clean contact might have seen him get a few more goals. Just my perspective anyway, could be wrong...Originally posted by Venton View PostDoes he overall though? Jota of more of a tap in merchant, and nunez is the faster forward to chase the long balls.
It would be exciting to see them as a front two.
-----Jota--- nunez------
Diaz----another----salah

-Gomez---Vvd--konate-

Put it like this, if he continues with the form he has shown so far until the end of the season my money would be on Klopp selling him and getting someone else in.
Nunez has played 1117 minutes in the PL this season, 289 of them not in the central attacking position.
That gives him an average of just under 56 minutes per game spread over the 20 games the team has played played. Now he actually stepped onto the pitch in 19 games so that brings his average up to 58 minutes PG.
5 goals and 6 assists from that 1117 minutes so a goal or assist every 101.5 minutes.
To compare with the return from our other attackers and using g/a vs minutes played for each as is fairer to the likes of Jota than just using appearances vs G/A.
Salah is a goal or assist every 79 minutes, a truly world class return.
Nunez is a goal or assist every 101.5 minutes.
Jota is a goal or assist every 111.3 minutes
Gakpo is a goal or assist every 204.5 minutes.
Diaz is a goal or assist every 288.5 minutes.
Nunez might look wasteful, but when he plays he ends up with a pretty good G/A vs time played ratio.
All those guys keep their numbers going like that for the rest of the season and Nunez will fare the best.
As for Jota being way better through the centre than Nunez, they tend to be pretty close in terms of end return vs time played and not just this season.
Jota might end up edging Nunez on goals per minutes played but Nunez then tends to more than make that back with assists.
That is not me saying that any of them are the nailed on long term answer, but rather than Nunez is not behind anyone save for Salah in terms of his g/a return vs the minutes he gets on the pitch.
And just for ****s and giggles. Haaland is a goal or assist every 72 minutes in the PL which is astounding but also shows how amazing Salah is that his numbers are chasing those of Haaland whilst playing wide right.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
