I think Darwin will be fine in the long run, the whole team is so disjointed and fragile, find it hard to judge anyone in isolation really, especially the new ones.

Mind you, I said the same about Keita.

me too.
The pony trampling a beachball analogy still holds true tho.
Maybe another pre-season, with his English improving, will do the trick? Having Diaz as a native Spanish speaker on the flank should help too.We are here for a good time not a long time....

Nobody is writing him off. There is nothing wrong with being realistic and pointing out his strong and weak points of which he has both. Admitting he has been disappointing & that he needs to do better is blatantly obvious. This is like the Keita thread all over, every LFC fan wants Nunez to do well, he will get time to prove himself but if he isn't doing that ... I just hope we don't hang onto to him as long as we did Keita. It's one of the reasons we ****ed ourselves in that midfield.

The last time I saw a manager (for us) go big on a player, and be absolutely ruthless and get rid was Rafa Benitez with Robbie Keane. Signed him for £20m in the summer, and binned him for £12m the following January back to Spurs.
I think Nunez will get another season. I'm still mystified by the Nunez/Gakpo dynamic, and just what on earth we're trying to do with them, though. If we continue to mess around with Nunez on the left, whenever Diaz can't play, it's setting the lad up to fail.
We should leave him up front, and give him the confidence and consistent run of games there to truly determine if he has what it takes or not. We've wasted a year of his development IMO, made even worse by signing Gakpo, and shunting Nunez on the left.

Row X factorOriginally posted by Tribute View PostI remember Skrtel getting his arse handed to him on a plate against Havant and Waterlooville but then went on to have a good spell with us at the back. Plenty said Gakpo was **** in his first six games too… and he’s got obvious qualities.
Yet it’s frowned on somehow to call out Salah when he’s well off it, paid £300k a week and looks like he’s checked out for the remainder of the season.
I’m 100% sure Darwin will come good and he’s already shown glimpses of his strength, pace and finishing and whilst he’s not the finished article, he’s definitely got an x factor to his play.
(sorry.. i haven't seen him play much this season but whenever I have he looks a handful.. he's done fine all things considered and look forward to seeing him next year)

I don't think Nunez has an x factor to his game. He certainly has an unpredictable factor, you don't know if his shot is going into the top corner or the top stand, if his passing will go to another one of our players or another dimension. The only consistency I can see to his game at the moment and that I can say for sure is that he is a very emotional player. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. With Suarez it was a good thing, he thrived off duels, controversy etc whereas from what I can see with Nunez it seems to get the better of him.
Hard to know if that can emotion be be refocused and honed or if it's just engrained into him. Aggression is great is it's pushed in the right direction. I worry that without his pace and athleticism, currently there isn't much else to him game. I hope I am wrong & that's not to say it won't improve. I still think he scores goals in his career but there needs to be more at LFC and your general game play needs to be of a certain standard. Next season is certainly a big one for him.

I'm happy to give him a free hit until Xmas, if it isn't working out after that, then we need to plan to offload him in the summer, unless there is a sensible purchase opportunity in the January window and we are selling to buy (and save wages).
