If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Two goals away from matching the first full season goal return of Suarez with far less minutes played.

Suarez finsihed his first full season with 11 goals in the league and 17 in all comps. Darwin is on 9 in the league and 15 in all comps.

Suarez also had the advantage of a half season to settle in prior to that first full season.

Not comparing them skillwise, but in terms of goal return vs minutes played Nunez is doing well enough during his settling in season.

Still think that if played up front in a functioning team that he would score a bucketload for us.

Was interesting to hear Ben Mee speak so highly of him last night.

Who knows, maybe that Trent/Nunez combo might be the next Gerrard/Torres love affair.

I'm so confused with what we're going to do with him!

It looks like Klopp favours Gakpo (who showed glimpses of quality and potential in the role), so whether that means we'll rotate from Salah, Jota, Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo, so that they all get plenty of games, I don't know. I can't see us using him as an impact sub. Who knows?!

And yet Klopp prefers a half fit Jota to start.

I think training must expose his lack of technical ability incomparison to the rest of our strikers.

Not saying he cant be effective in the right setup... but I think we signed him on emotion rather than statistical analysis, because his game does not suit the false nine or wide forward. Spending 80 million on a player you would think they would be the lynchpin, not a squad player... which lets face it, he is.

And Suarez was tear defences a new one consistently despite his " low" return. He was combining well with the other forwards, whereas we seem a bit clueless as how to fit Nunez in and he does really gel well with the rezt if the team (granted under less than ideal circumstances).

Still dont see him starting ahead of Diaz-Gakpo-Salah. And Id put Jota and Elliott ahead if him on the left and centre (personally). I do think he is a fantastic plan b... If we can start putting decent crosses into the box again

Fairly sure playing Jota was tactical as Darwin is currently less effective against teams that sit deep.

Turned out to be a perfect opportunity to get some much need confidence back to a very rusty a Jota.

That is because he is neither really.

He is a striker that does his best work in the centre and that sometimes drifts left when he has someone to interchange with.

At his best his movement and positional play is not all that dissimilar to a younger Cavani. That's how he played for Benfica.

We seem to have looked at him, saw what he brings to a team and then used him in a totally different manner.

I really like him. It always seems to me that we look more of a threat when he plays than when he doesn’t, although our play seems more controlled when Bobby or Gakpo start in his stead. That’s why I think he doesn’t start every game. It’s horses for courses with him at the moment.

I do get the Suarez comparisons but think he is more is a Torres type of forward myself. I seem to recall when he joined, Rafa had to give Nando strict instructions to play within the width of the 18yd box, in order to channel his energy and aggression where it is most effective. His play at Atleti would take him down the channels and out wide far more than we needed. I don’t think Nunez strays wide too often but I do think we are yet to unlock his true potential somehow. When we do, he’ll be a monster for us.

i dont think Nunez is anywhere close to Torres or Suarez.

They were both world class and had amazing technique. If you took away Nunez size and pace, he is very, very average.

I agree that he's nowhere near to Torres or Suarez, don't agree that he's very average though.

If/when we have a more 'normal' Klopp season in 2023/24 i'd be surprised if he doesn't hit 30+ goals

Memzey did not say he was close to either in quality though, just that he was, in Memzey's opinion, a similar style of attacker to what Torres was.

Guessing that meant lean, pacey, direct, and willing to run between the lines.

Hard to really assess anyone based on this season, I mean I'm not sure bar Alisson you'd really rate any of them!

He's still got to prove he can do it but he's got the tools and attributes to succeed with us.

Yep, exactly that, plus physical and aggressive. When the team as a whole clicks, he’ll be very dangerous and effective for us, in my opinion.

That goal he scored had shades of Torres. In fact, when his touch is on it, he has a very similar playing style. Nunez through the middle next season?
